2004-02-06 21:27:45 Guild Software receives investment.
Good news, everyone. As of last Friday (Jan 30th) we received positive notification of an investment in our company. We've delayed announcing this for a week, to confirm the transfer of funds and give us a little time to inform our other prospective business partners. We're back in business, the office is now bustling with activity once again. With our current funding and schedule estimates, we'll be producting a saleable game from the "Vendetta Test" by summer. The sales and distribution model of the game is not yet finalized, but will be soon. We are in talks with publishers. We are still interested in additional funding, comarketing and publishing opportunities.

We much appreciate all the good wishes and support we've had from our userbase and extended community in the last couple of rough months. We're very excited to have the opportunity to make this game a success. Thanks for sticking with us, and we hope you all hang around to see the final product.

So this means that there will be a game that you can buy in the stores? Or is it a certain amount of money per month?

This is like one of those boxing movies where the hero gets knocked to the canvas, and doesn't look like he's going to get up, but then right at the seven count raises himself up by the ropes and makes it to another round.

It's the Intelion Stallion, 'Rocky' Bergboa.

Congratulations, Devs! I'd noticed a distinct lessening of the doom-and-gloom in the last week (*cough* new server *cough*), and wondered what was causing it. A few bits of advice, if you didn't know it already:

Spend like you're still poor.
If you go and blow all this money on cool gadgets and bits, a Monet for the office or whatever, and otherwise lose your focus on the game itself, things can go downhill. I warn you of this because I saw it happen with Kamehan Studios. Back when I joined the Tactical Ops community, it was a small mod for Unreal Tournament that was quite good. It had a responsive dev team and a good, stable product. Then, they were bought out by InfoGrames Int'l. They quit responding to the community, quit so much as playing the game they had labored to build. They cited nondisclosure agreements, deadlines, etc. After a bit, the community just sort of faded away. Today, you can't find an official website for the game, just some forums. Which brings me to my second and final point:

Stay the F$%#! away from InfoGrames Int'l. (A.K.A. the new Atari)
You name the concept, or the studio, add InfoGrames to the mix, and you have instant suckage. They took Kamehan's TacOps and destroyed it. They took Shiny's Enter The Matrix and butchered it into something that wouldn't have flown in 1998, much less 2003. They're the proverbial Reverse Midas of publishers, and they have no respect for their developers or the community of their games. Pretty much once it's out, it's up to the community to patch an InfoGrames title, because Atari's not gonna touch it once the buck's in their pocket. You'd do well do avoid them like the plague.

Aside from that, best wishes to all of you! The Final Game™ will rock, I know it!

This is certainly good news but, there is still a bunch to do.
PLAYERS: This makes it even more important to get bug reports in and concentrate on the directions the Devs want to go...(Group play, Factions, Exploration and Group Combat. ALSO, total immunity for anyone testing a bug.
DEVs: MAKE us concentrate on what you need tested.

Continued Good Luck, DEVs.
