1st of all this is not a revamp the prom (prometheus for those who like that name better) thread

2nd im just looking for any reasonable answer i can get, not crazy stuff... though you could add that in at the end of your post

here it is: why does the prom have 4 "gun" barrels when it only has 3 ports?

And here I was thinking there was going to be some kind of fancy shmancy dance.

At least I don't have to rent a limo.

One of them is a FLIR detector/emitter... :P

Two small ports (on the side) and one double-barreled turret (large port) on the nose. This will change when the devs more fully implement modular ships. The devs have said you will be able to look at a ship and see what its use is.

Three large tubes, a medium engine, and a fast charge battery probably means the valk is used for chasing down marauders. A Wart Hog with gauss and prox mines is probably for capping. You will be able to tell what a ship is used for by merely scanning/looking at it.

Hang tight.

Oh boy, if a double-barreled turret is a problem for you then what can explain the lack of visible weapons and all the non-special ships?

=b

Little doors, like they had on the headlights of all those cars from the '80s.

Arolte, waylon holding a grudge on you so you can complain?

Uhhh, Lemming. Huh? That made no sense. Just sayin'... if a double-barreled turret is that much of a problem for someone, why wouldn't a nonspecial ship with zero visible weapons be?

Because the graphics would have to be updated, and i'm sure waylon has more important things to do.

So would having to change the double-barreled turret to a single-barreled one. Although I wouldn't imagine it to be too hard, since they changed the bus's weapon ports from two to one in like a next-day update back in 3.2.1. The visible weapon ports seem like an accessory they slap on to the ship model itself, rather than being an actual part of the model itself. Sort of like adding props to an existing character model. Although I may be wrong on that, but if the Frigate's modeling technique works anything like the player ships it would be a correct assumption. Anyway, the REAL work comes in when you need to dynamically change them for every single weapon in the game, or whether it even has anything using up those ports at all.

im not complaining, i was just wondering if the prom used to have 4 weapon ports instead of just 1. and i was gonna ask why the last port was taken off, if 4 ports were indeed on the ship, i was doing anything but whining anc complaining

Maybe I worded it incorrectly. Didn't mean to make it sound like you were complaining or anything. Anyway, if you squint enough you'll see that the original Prometheus concept mentions 1 large port and 2 small ports. Have a look yourself:

The front large port is confusing, I agree. Maybe instead of having a double-barrel battleship style turret it should be a hanging chaingun like the one found on an AH-64 Apache.

No no, its so they can fit an extra L port on in the next update.
Mar 20, 2004 spectre_c_me link
if this is true, Dave, then you will be returning... or are you already on as your new alias? sorry i never fully understood the entire rumor of that

It hardly makes sense to have larger ports closer together and smaller parts futher apart... Heck, rails would probably miss a valk if it's profile was facing the right way...
