Deliberate exploiting, and punishments.

Apr 22, 2004 Sjet link
Lately, there have been quite a few cases of people using testing as an excuse for large-scle exploiting. None of these individuals have been punished, and one has even gone away from the situation rewarded. Why?

Today Blitz has grabbed the Itani flag, and deliberately spaced it in sector 13 for no apparent reason. He used multiple accounts to accomplish this, gloated about how clever he was, and stated his intention to disrupt CTF as much as he could. Logs can be furnished upon request, although I suspect this will be ignored, just as every other instance has. Guidelines are clear. He, and most of the other exploiters know this. I could understand some fairly new player going to do something, IE make the flag dissapear, and not really get reprimanded, or punished for it, but the last two instances, SirCamps with his money bug, which was already throughly tested, and Blitz, with this whole flag stuff, is clearly over the line. Both are pre 3.1 vets, and know the rules and guidelines.

I would really like to know how/why Guild expects the community to put up with this, and why they take no action to discipline people that are caught. I know you may be busy, but how long does it take to pen a quick email, "You've been temporarily banned for XXXXX reason" and set an IP or character ban? I for one am becoming very, very tired of this.

You forgot to mention that you, at the same time had two accounts, one of which has Serco's flag spaced in s1.
Anyway, I won't even bother reading this thread from this moment. I see no exploit in it and it will just be a flame war.
Good bye.

Nothing to see here...

look, alienb/Sjet, you need to cool your jets here. So he exploited. Is an irate flame gonna help the situation, especially when posted on the forums? Take it to another forum if you want to rant about it. If you wanted to make a complaint you should have sent a polite, calm email to Guild about it rather than do what you did.

They don't expect you to put up with it. The TEST is free for anyone who wants to help them out by bug testing for them. If you're so sick of the community and not too addicted (ha!) then just quit.

For your information, DR, exploiting is not bug-testing. Exploiting is deliberately misusing a bug that has already been found to benefit on it. This is apparently what happened in the situtation Sjet described, *not* bugtesting.

Sorry (for myself) that I read this pile of poo again, but since when spacing a flag is a bug...?
Apr 22, 2004 Celkan link
It's not a bug, but it *is* an exploit.
Apr 22, 2004 Blitz link
I fail to see that.
Apr 22, 2004 Pirogoeth2 link
It *is*. It disrupts the gameplay. Like making Serco's flag dissapear, however instead this was done for the heck of it, not for bug testing. Then again, Alienb/sjet wasn't fair either...

It disrupts the gameplay in a manner which cannot be repaired from. Furthermore, it utilizes the gameplay in a manner contradictory to that which it was designed for.

Oh well. Flags'll be gone this time next month.

[edit]Hmm... Pirogoeth2 beat me to it...[/edit]

It's so funny since alienb is doing THE EXACT SAME THING RIGHT NOW.

*yawns*

This whole thing is a flamewar.

I might as well pour what lighter fluid I have onto it:

I first heard about the moneybug from alienb. He said that he and Durgia were exploiting it for "testing purposes." I asked if a bug reported was filed, and he said, "well, no..." I got the impression that one was not going to be filed, and I logged off and filed one right away, even though I had not even used the bug yet. Later, I tested the spacing crash in 13.

So we all are not knights in shining armor. What the hell is wrong with spacing a flag? "?" does it in 12 all the time, every time he caps! What was Blitz exploiting? I must be missing something...

Ugh, delete the thread, this was obvously a mistake to post.

I had Serco's flag from a legitimate cap carried out by m2r7, since it was his first solo-cap, I wanted him to keep it and the money. I would have just given him 500k, but I don't have that.

As far as SC's post, I told him that I personally had not filed a bugreport about it, and that I wanted to do some more testing before doing a full report. Deliberately crashing the server was not part of my testing, so it took a bit longer. His was.

My post was intended pretty much for the devs to express my frustration for their lack of punishment towards those that deliberately disrupt the test. It's unfortunatey fallen into a flamewar, caused by other people. I'm sorry.
Apr 22, 2004 SirCamps link
You know, if you want to tell them privately, I suggest you email them.
Apr 22, 2004 Blitz link
But he doesn't, SirCamps.
He wants everyone to hear half of the truth. It's very effective given that more than half of the community doesn't have the abillity to use their brain and judge by themselves.
Case solved.

1) "Deliberate exploiting"
Oh sorry. Is there another kind? Or you're just using explosive words so that those people who have half a brain belive you more?
2) "I wanted to do some more testing before doing a full report".
And I wanted to test after how much time the flag times out. See? I can bend the facts too.
3) "deliberately disrupt the test".
Here comes the clue train! Last stop is you!
We're not supposed to test the CTF since it is to be removed. Another stupid argument straight to the recycle bin.
4) "I had Serco's flag from a legitimate cap"
How come it's spaced in sector 1?
Aren't you EXPLOITING?
4b) Legitimate cap? Is there non legitimate cap? Oh, sorry, I forgot that you seem to like to use demagogy.
5) "express my frustration for their lack of punishment towards those that deliberately disrupt the test"
See 1 and 3.

Anything else? I find your lame attempts to flame (Oh wait! It's illegal to flame of those boards. Shouldn't you be BANNED for it?) me amusing.

See? a1k0n didn't ignore this thread.

Let's get out Occam's Razor (look it up) and pare this thing down a bit:

Spacing the flag is not prohibited and is not an "exploit" (does not take advantage of a bug). It IS annoying, but unfinished games tend to be annoying that way. There will be no banning for this.

It probably would have been less entertaining if people hadn't overreacted to it, and therefore wouldn't have lasted as long.
