Ingame enforcement in a post-test world.

According to the In Progress updates the game will be released in some form by this summer, so I was wondering how the guide system would work once it was. How many guides do you plan on having? Will your mysterious publisher help pay for them? How much power will they have? etc.

Kind of hoping it has something like Lineage2 where it has a 'GM Petition' system. Like /gm <problemhere> then your put into a queue and a guide tries to get to you as fast as possible. Something similar would be nice so that a guide doesn't get spammed with a bunch of problems at once. There should also be one or two guides(more than likely a switch off with other guides) that just watch what's going on around sectors. Kind of what Sherpa does right now. As for how they would get guides, freely or payment that's something they would have to think up. Powers, well I guess if the guides get paid well then full powers basicly straight off the bat. If lets say helper guide then it would something like every other week if they haven't had any complaints and what not they move up to a higher level guide. Obviously you would have to have some 'Main Gamemasters' who could lets say restart sectors or help the lower end guides who wouldn't be sure what to do in a certain situation.

"guide system? what the heck is that?"
guide = moderator, basically...
SF just has a system of how a guide system could work in vendetta.

A Guide is a person that goes around making sure we don't offend people.

VANDAL, sad news, you've been renamed Virginia by FM on his "Guides, In-game Enforcement" thread...

LOL

Also, and Im not implying anything about anybody, Guides should be financially compensated (with credits obviously) since their fantastic ability to make people mad at them and also their power, and their supposed NEUTRALITY, well, I fear like anybody, a Guide could be bribed for the right price.

"well, I fear like anybody, a Guide could be bribed for the right price."

If you would actually go through the trouble of finding out the guide's real name, home address, and bother to send him money, then you are a sad individual indeed.

Currently I have unlimited funds available to me, but I suspect that will end and there will be other perks when there are more guides.

Magus: Please turn your attention to the sentence above the one you quoted "Guides should be financially compensated (with credits obviously) since their fantastic ability to make people mad at them and also their power, and their supposed NEUTRALITY, well, I fear like anybody, a Guide could be bribed for the right price."

It was one complete sentence, and I meant to imply that the Guides could be bribed with CREDITs for the right price not actual currency usable in the Real World.

Well VANDAL, the only Guide I know of, is Whistler and Sherpa (or are they the same? I dunno...)

Sherpa is Whistlers evil twin.

As I've stated at earlier points, having experimented with a "Guide" implementation, we want to move away from that in favor of a system more oriented towards userbase self-management. That said, there will still be a need for some sort of more authoritative help ("Guides") and these will still exist in some modified form. I'm not sure exactly how many there will be. More than now, obviously.

However, there will also be a shift of responsibility for some tasks from the Guides to the users themselves. Player voting will be implemented in May. This will at first be limited to voting to mute abusive players for a preset amount of time, but can later be expanded to other needs. Player mentoring will also be implemented, and will be tied into high-level character advancement. Ie.. mentoring a certain number of new users will increase various statistics and open up new progression possibilities. These avenues of progression will be optional, of course, but only open to those who are helpful to newbies.

You can generally expect more features of this kind, and less emphasis on heavily-empowered Guides.
