High lvl players...

Before you get anoyed, i'm sorry if this has already been posted...i have'nt been around for a while....

any how, i've been on today and saw players with amazingly high lvls in all 4 skills (example: 7+/6/6/7+) now, i just read that uncledave got a lvl8 in combat. from my knowing him (ingame) i cant see how it's possible for some one to get to lvl7 in combat and make it also in commerce...including the problem that was with the trade missions that you got only a bit of points for short or long distance missions.

now i, a honest player, who got his 5/3/3/4 with hard work and long hours sitting infront of the computer chasing bots, or running away from some pirates (bots and players included), dont see it right that such players are to have such high score if they have'nt got it properly (and i know there was a bug with combat at the beggining so dont tell me they all got it properly! and i don't know about trading yet...)

to be frank, a second full reset does'nt seem as a bad idea for me because those who have their pnts not fairly make it (for me atlist, dono about the rest...let me know here what you think) that much more anoying that i bearly get any where while they are far ahed at every thing!

I'd speculate that there will be another reset when the new universe is introduced.

A bug during an engine test? Preposterous! I demand retribution!

Well, lunitary, there are a couple of players who went above 4/4/4/x when the reset first occurred by unknowingly exploiting a bug. This bug gave them ever-increasing experience points in the basic combat mission. It didn't end at combat pilot level 4, so it was rather "easy" for them to gain insane points. Alex Rowe [INM] is something like 10/9/9/x.

However, don't think that because they have high numbers it means that they exploited. I have 6/6/6/3, and am about five hours of play away from 7/7/7/4.

I have 4,2,2,1 because i **** off a lot. that's after less than 5 hours of real training.

I'd like to remind people that the point of logging on to Vendetta is still play testing and bug reporting. If you are intending to play less because there will be resets, then you are not helping.

I think I'm 7/6/6/4 with honest combat and commerce missions. By honest I mean I didn't jack up my skills before entering the advanced training missions like some people did (*cough* Alex Rowe *cough*). So it's possible to get that high given enough time. It's inevitable that people with lots of free time on their hands will get an advantage over those who don't with the new system. If you're concerned about dying a lot, you're probably better off staying in your home sector until you've got decent weapons/ships to venture out. Or do what I do and trade when very few players are online.

PS: While I understand that this is for testing purposes only, I still think it would be very annoying to have resets every three or four weeks. Not just for gameplay reasons, but also for testing. Keep in mind that not a lot of people have reached the higher levels yet. If we constantly get resets we may never be able to test the later missions/skill levels thorougly. Anyway, just something to consider.

I also got my xp points honestly. was heading towards 7/8/7/x (forgot, haven't played for some time) before I stopped playing for a while. (my xp reset itself due to a bug, so I'm taking a small break until the bug is figured out. can't reproduce it myself...)
if you want to see who has worked really hard for their points, go look at the "player ranking" page and look under "deaths"
that's actually how many bots/players they have killed.

I really don't see a need for a reset...as long as the higher level players *(*cough* Alex Rowe *cough*) are thoroughly testing the high level missions and hidden sector performances.

I know that killing other-nation members should have consequences and I hope the uber-score players are testing those functions as well.

I'm certain the Devs would hate to find out, down the road, that there are problems with player's nation-standings and someone that has been there and killing everything that moves, has not discovered or reported them.

well, we will see in the comming month (or so) if the community is honest enough not to abuse this "old" bug then there wont be a reset in need, but if there will be abuse over other players then a reset will be in need...remember what happened when the itani capped so much in the beggining? it made them the strongest nation for all of 3.3.* and some ace players whom i will not name have chose it as their nation for 3.3.*
true, this bug is not applying for one nation but all. never the less, i fear it can only damage the stability of the community.

that's all i have to say on the subject for the while...

High levels can be achieved by having no life also i just made 6/6/6/10, and am only about 10k from 6/7/7/10. every bit was earned honestly, i just happen to have a lot of time on my hands.

Well, that bug really helped me to lvl up to combat 4, but I made the "mistake" to stop too soon and 5-7 was really hard work. As for *cogh* Alex Rowe, I don't think he exploited the bug, not on that char. Eldrad (char) did, he even said it in public chat, but whenever I was on, I saw or heard Alex work like a horse for the next levels, mainly by botting in 18. And he keeps us informed - he still has no ueber-weapons like flares or valk, not even gauss or fast charge battery, afaik.
I don't think a reset just because some had a small advantage due to that bug is necessary.

I am 7/6/6/8 all honest work. And Alex worked pretty darn hard to get his last few lvls.

Its rather irelevant as the bug has been tested and fixed. I mean if this was a game you paid for I can see you complain about a xp gain do to a bug, but since our whole purpose is to find the bugs, test the bugs and report the bugs I fail to see any problems. Alex did not cause any game interuptions, did not crash the server and has not broken the game in any way.
He is not going on murderous rampages killing everybody, he really is not doing anything you should complain about as testers. Like I said if this was a game you paid for I could understand it.

And I know of at least 2 other players with flars btw, though they have not used them, and fc bat is not all that hard to get.

Stop complaining and keep testing!

RelayeR misses Carmen Ibanez!

Alex is a hard working pussycat...

RelayeR grants Sally: T-T-T-Too much time!

RelayeR hands Durgia a chill-pill.

"He has gauss, flares, and fast charge, Moon Dog."

Hmm, really? My bad... since when? Sorry, I replied to this before playing today, but I thought when I was on yesterday he still had no gauss and fc...

But some Serco have reached a high level too, I saw one (Spellcast?) botting with L-Mines today, so...
May 05, 2004 Eldrad link
ok... here's some rumor control, I played on Alex Rowe after Eldrad got stuck due to the advanced missions being broken the first day and knowing advanced combat missions were not working continued to use just the basic missions. After playing for 16 hours straight (yes I had/have too much free time at the moment and will continue to for the next week and a half) I managed to accumulate a little less than half the XP Alex Rowe currently has. I recently did get gauss, lvl 11 light weapons gives you them, I also recently got a FC battery, lvl 4 trade with lvl 9 combat pilot give it to you. Both of these happened since I last saw Moon Dog in game. I've had flares for a long time, but due to my lack of observation didn't realize it until yesterday.

I'm sorry for upsetting people because of this, I don't like upsetting people. I plan on continuing to use this character and further testing the game, and am not deleting him due to the fact that the devs have since made leveling harder. In respect for the general communities expression of not wanting to hear more of this discussion I would like to ask anyone who is upset by this to msg me in game instead of using public chat.

P.S. FM if you see anything in here that you feel is flame, or flame bait please delete the post as that is the opposite to my intentions.

Eldrad, you didn't exploit a bug.
The devs didn't plan to have people level exponentially without taking a license test, but it's *not* a bug guys.

(and because I was getting stressed by the tension today)
long as Eldrad doesn't use his advantages against other players too much, no one really minds.
heh... honestly, if anyone had to have that much power, I'd rather it be Eldrad, since he's much more responsible
