The Hive are trying something odd.
I myself, have been noticing very odd hive behavior recently, I dont usually bother them, as they dont really pose a threat to the way I survive, but while trying to convince the Itani nation I am a pirate, and not a Serco (they took a lot of convincing) I noticed they were predicting my shots more, almost dodging me, unlike before... ...after I had wiped out near an entire hive inside Itani space, I was finnaly allowed to dock with an Itani capitol ship.
After a very long, and boring journey from the reaches of grey space, to the center of my home territory (hey, at least I was not flying, and to my suprise, Serco Beer was offered in the ready room) we were attacked by a different type of hive creation.

All I can think about now is, what are the hive planning? This is different...

The recent incursions into B-8 have all the earmarks of intelligence gathering. The hive are studying our tactics, learning from them. I fear they are gearing up for a major assault in nation space.

Jacked into the Deep Blue [IA] Universal AC, LeberMac ponders the upscale in significant events in grayspace recently... the UIT Border patrol, the Hive infiltrators, the battlezone in Sedina between capital ships, the sudden discovery of mysterious "racetracks" elsewhere in Sedina...

Me own arse has felt the boost of the ejection pod a few too many times in b8 lately.
Too bad the friggets are a wee bit under-armored as they seem to be dust by the time the hive raids begin.
Perhaps 'tis an attraction to the large amounts of xith armor plating the vessels that is attracting the hive...maybe we should work on keeping them friggies alive a bit longer to fend of the raids...

Recently, there was a large incursion of ApuTech Observers in Sedina sector B-8. It was dealt with quickly, but followed by another incursion.
Additionally, we have recently been flooded with unusual distress calls eminating from UIT space, describing previously unknown Hive bots attacking ore-laden traders. So far, not one of these unconventional designs was still present by the time a Border Patrol unit arrived.

I've heard rumours by deep space prospectors of swarms of bots of unknown configuration, Hive Queen gatherings and... something else.
The Hive Queens lack the capacity to design new automaton types, as per their basic programming. However, during the hearings into the original Rogue Queen episode, some UIT and TPG AI engineers were silenced and discredited; some of them even vanished. Said engineers were giving warnings about "emergent properties" and a Hive Queen's supposed capability to, in time, learn to circumvent and neutralize the limitations set to it by its programming, cited as one of the main reasons Queens were memory-wiped after every mission and their bots recycled. Some engineers have pointed to their ability to "graft" current tehcnology to their centuries-old automaton designs as proof positive that the rogue queens are in a different league altogether now. Whatever the case, both the Queens and their autmata have changed their tactics and behavior drastically over the past few weeks.
TPG is said to be considering posting a bounty for remains of these rumoured new automatons, or any vidcap or information regarding "Queen Prime". When queried directly, though, TPG representatives and its AI mainframes refuse to comment or disprove these rumours.

The very idea of robots, AI constructs, computer programs, etc. exhibiting emergent behavior is absurd! It's simply not possible for any man-made construct to exceed its original specifications.
