Jun 15, 2005 Apex link
The first official Vendetta Racing League race is to take place on Saturday, June 25 at 5pm GMT (12pm CST). Use Daylight Saving Time (where applicable).

Pure Stock EC will be the class for VRL's first event.

Entry fee is 20,000cr

see http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/10639 for general info on VRL and classes
___________________________

Pure Stock EC
Qualifying ships:
"Out of the box" stock EC-88.

NO removing of ANY equipment from the ship once its purchased. The EC-88 must have the free battery and gov-issued plasma cannon equipped.
Shooting is allowed in Pure Stock EC, though it will likely not be done since all energy in the small battery will be needed for racing.

___________________________

Races will be limited to six contenders at once.

In the event there are more than six entries, tournament-like qualifiers will take place in which the contenders are broken into random groups of six racers, where they will compete and the top racers of each group will go to the final race.

The Final race will take place on 3 of VO's courses,Sedina D-5, E-5, and F-5. Each course will be raced twice and contenders will earn league points.

1st place: 10pts
2nd place: 6pts
3rd place: 4pts
4th place: 2pts
5th place: 1pt
6th place 0pts.

Winnings will be determined by number of points after the 6 races that will take place on all 3 tracks.

Prize money is as follows:

1st place: 1,000,000cr
2nd place: 500,000cr
3rd place: 100,000cr
4th place: 10,000cr
5th place: honorable mention
6th place: honorable mention

I will be trading and mining to accumulate the prize money above for winnings. Any donations to VRL are greatly appreciated!!

This first event is a test and attraction in a sense. I want to try out these classes to see how well they work and we'll work on it from there.

Apex,
2pm CST (really CDT with daylight saving time)is 7pm GMT. That is the time I usually use for the cap ship battles.

Would you be willing to move your event to a diffent time? How long do you thing your event will take? Should I plan on changing my event time for that week or canceling all together?

Why not bump it back a few hours, Apex? Say, 12 Noon CST? We can have a fun filled Vendetta Saturday afternoon! ;p

(Sign me up, by the way. Me loves racing!)

Perhaps we could also get a guide to come moderate and /kill anyone who tries to interfere?

I checked to see if there was a capship battle planned for that day, I figured we weren't having one for a few weeks.

I'd like to hold this event at noon [edit:PST] for the best turnout for the first event, if you could reschedule the 7/8th capshipbattle for 2 hours after, 9pm GMT, that'd be helpfull.

Unless I find that turnout is best if we start the events earlier in the day.

Apex, its noon PST, not CST

Also, I'm in (of course).

And if you don't make the money, I'll give you a loan for anything you need (we talked about this in game, just reminding you)

And are you racing in this one too?

I’m confused. :) I think we should switch this conversation to game time

Now:
12pm PDT = 7pm GMT
12pm CDT = 5pm GMT
2pm PDT = 9pm GMT
2pm CDT = 7pm GMT

If you haven’t noticed Apex, I post each week’s event separately usually by Wednesday or Thursday the week of the event. I do that to make sure everyone has enough warning, even though I usually stick with the same day and time.

If you want to plan your event for 7pm GMT do so. I will cancel the cap ship battle that week. The last time we changed times we had a very low turnout. So if you want to use that time slot that week its find with me. But I’m not going to plan the cap ship battle for another time; it’s just too much effort for very little players. Not because it was a bad timeslot, just because people didn’t read the new time before they logged in.

I personally think you should choose 9pm GMT. The cap ship battles aren’t going to take more then 1.5 hours and then people can prepare them selves to join your event. What ever you decide I have one recommendation: pick a time and stick with it. It way too much hassle to change times after you have already begun.

Let me know :)

ok I understand we have conflicting time slots. I guess i'm being greedy for time because I REALLY don't want VRL to flop.

I'm moving the time to 5pm GMT: 2 hours BEFORE the capship battle. that'll hopefully give us time to prepare and get it done, since I actually won't be available at 9pm GMT.

Smittens: We need someone to be a race official and I don't think it would be prudent for me to race while being one. I may appoint race officials for other events if I really want to compete, but for now, i'm hosting it and I won't be racing.

I wouldn't mind knowing the details on where/when/who to get donations tossed to... I've got a few credits that I can toss the way of anyone who's promoting more VO content *grin*.
Jun 15, 2005 who? me? link
afraid i cant make the entrance fee unless someone wants to make a tax deductible donation :)
Jun 15, 2005 Apex link
theluckyone: to donate, talk to "Akire Azimuth, "Apex Azimuth", "Smittens", or any IA council member and i'm sure they'd cooperate in getting the credits to me for the races.

Who?me?: I can make exceptions for players lower than 2/2/2/-/- for the Stock EC races just so newbies can get a piece of the action.

I will see about getting guides in the sector for the even to /kill anyone who tries to spoil the event, so please respect the event.

Sweet, I might win!

I think having a guide with "/kill" ready might be a little extreme...but there should be some way of making sure this goes off smoothly.

I've just noticed an issue with the stock EC class...

We have No way of being able to tell if someone is using something other than the Free Battery...

Unless a guide had a way of scanning ships or we had a way of seeing the loadout of someone's ship... people could cheat.

Since there are lots of credits on the line for this event, I think we can't just rely on the honor system.

I'm considering doing out with the battery requirement for stock EC...

unless any of you have a suggestion.
Jun 15, 2005 smittens link
Hmmm...I can't think of anything, but I think the use of free battery makes it much more exiting.

Sounds like fun I'm in./me puts on his apex exhuast :)...just curious about the name and your RP background.
Jun 16, 2005 Beolach link
Well, if you require all participants to make an alt, you could verify that everyone had combat level 0, which would restrict them to a free battery. But personally, I think it would be OK to rely on the honor system.

I won't be able to participate, got a cousin getting married that day.

@Touriaus:
Apex: the highest point, or the point on the celestial sphere toward which the sun and solar system appear to be moving relative to the fixed stars.

Azimuth: the horizontal component of a direction (compass direction), measured around the horizon from the North point, toward the East, i.e. clockwise. It is usually measured in degrees.

Note that the there is no Apex to an Azimuth.

Pure EC racing with peashooters? I'm in.
Jun 17, 2005 Touriaus link
well sure but there are apex performance parts and apex seems to love racing and such and i was wondering if there could be a connection.
Jun 17, 2005 Phaserlight link
I think we can rely on the honor system. Remember how close those races were? It should be obvious if someone is using a better battery. Just have a few judges watching (along with racers waiting for their heat). If someone is caught cheating, ban them from the VRL. That should be incentive enough not to cheat.

Plus I for one really, really want to see this succeed, so I don't know about everyone else but I'll be racing a fair race. It's just like in real life, sometimes people cork their bats and make illegal modifications to their cars but we still have MLB and NASCAR, you really just have to rely on the honor system.

@ Touriaus:
I, In the Vendetta Universe am only associated with the following:

Fierra international
GravTrans corp.
Apex (not me) Custom Cores
Ang-Ular Racing
Arti-Grav Systems

most of you don't know anything about those, but that's ok, you may see them in the distant future.
