5th Weekly Corporate Sectors Run

The Fifth weekly Corporate Sectors Run started with much confusion.

The racers were assembling underneath the stars of Helios, waiting for the race to begin. At the last minute, MonkofAkan decided that he was not going to be able to make it to MC the race, and paid LeberMac a half mil to host it as he had other business elsewhere. Being no stooge, LeberMac took the sure-money deal instead of the chance that me might not place in the race, and accepted the emcee position.

Shortly after MonkofAkan departed the scene, LeberMac began sending out the rules and taking some recordings of stats. The racers calmly waited for bloodthirst to return with an appropriate ship, since he had not been paying attention the multiple times everyone mentioned "No Valkyries."

Out of the corner of their radar screen, a red dot appeared. The racers, oblivious to their plight, calmly waited until LeberMac spouted out "Watch SpaceHunter!" The annoying runner and ganker SpaceHunter had decided to come by and spoil everyone's fun. A couple of flare launches later, all the racers had to repair while SpaceHunter was dispatched by the armed racers with small effort.

With the dents banged out of their hulls, the racers assembled again and LeberMac fired off his quad-popcorn launchers and the Fifth Corporate Sectors Run was on!

Everyone but Demonor immediately launched themselves to the Helios WH to Ukari. He was caught unawares having a snack while plotting his course, and left the sector a full 8 seconds behind.

In Ukari, most of the racers tried to plot around the asteroid fields, but ananzi ended up hitting an uncharted roid field in B-1 while Calder and Demonor took an early lead. First-time racer Stranger was caught waiting for his heavy batt to recharge and sat in Ukari while Calder, Demonor and ananzi were already in Arta Caelestis.

Calder was first into Dau, followed about a half jump behind by Demonor and ananzi, with bloodthirst in a storm in Arta Caelestis. Aaaand Stranger was still waiting for his battery to recharge in Ukari.

Calder lengthened his lead into Nyrius, with Demonor and ananzi about a jump behind in Dau, and bloodthirst stuck in another storm slightly behind ananzi. Stranger was still waiting for his battery to recharge in Arta Caelestis.

Monk of Akan and Joyce Sanders, watching from a suite in the Makchuga, cheered wildly for bloodthirst as he appeared to be gaining on the lead pack of racers.

Ananzi briefly took over second place from Demonor in Verasi but promptly lost it due to his ancient and malfunctioning navicomputer, which would haunt him for the rest of the race. While Demonor and ananzi battled for second, Calder was rocketing ahead into edras to the thrill of the screaming race fans there. Stranger was still in Dau, waiting for his battery to recharge...

As Calder entered Pelatus, he became worried that the constant reporting of his position would make him a target for pirates. Demonor was about half a jump behind him, and pulled ahead of ananzi permanently at this point: ananzi's aging navicomputer warped him into another non-empty roid sector in Verasi, shaving precious seconds off of his time.

The inept pirate SpaceHunter and the slightly less inept Eckala-Ha Bashor waited for the racers near the Edras/Pelatus WH in a lame attempt to disrupt the race. No racers were lost to pirates, apparently they decided fighting each other was more fun.

bloodthirst caught up to ananzi in Pelatus as Calder poured some of LeberMac's special tequila into the fusion intake of his Hornet and blasted through into Odia, with Demonor close behind on the other side of the Odia-Bractus wormhole.

The racers continued through grayspace, but nearer to Ukari a curious thing happened - Demonor and Calder were a jump apart as they entered Latos, but Calder hit a storm and Demonor was able to jump around, as they entered Ukari they were merely three seconds apart. It was a mad dash to the finish sector, ladies threw their undergarments, other ships scattered, the warp-in signatures exploded at virtually the same instant...

Calder finished first, scarcely two seconds ahead of Demonor. But that wasn't the end of the close finishes.

ananzi was slightly ahead of bloodthirst in the race through Sedina, but sadly, with each jump, ananzi's navicomputer put him further and further behind. By the time he was ready to make the final jump, ananzi had put about 5 seconds between himself and bloodthirst, but it would not be enough. The station's race timers show a photo-finish for the tachyon bursts that precede the opening of the wormhole, but bloodthirst's newer navicomputer was able to get him into the sector earlier. The broadcast network had to heavily censor ananzi's post-race interview, and ananzi had to be escorted from the sector by Station Guards for shooting bloodthirst in frustration.

Stranger was still in Sedina, waiting for his heavy battery to recharge. He finished the race and learned a valuable lesson: Don't race with a heavy battery.

Calder had to leave quickly after the event, Demonor enjoyed a smoke and then went botting with bloodthirst, ananzi went to go be annoying somewhere else, and Stranger did eventually show up to finish the race.

This race was brought to you by the [CDC] guild, prizes were awarded in Latos O-12.

He did. I think it was 17:26, but I'll have to check........

It's your race, man. I'm too unreliable to be counted on to be online at such-and-such a time every week. I'll help out as a backup, but don't count on me being there every week.

Heh, so does my new time count as a course record?
Oct 24, 2005 moldyman link
Okay, fine, I'll get someone else to do it.

And, yes, once I get the exact time, it's a new record. that's what you got the 500k for.
