Or just don't use proprietary video codecs at all. They're a massive pain to play under 64-bit Linux.

You want a pain? Try playing an AVI-wrapped WMV9 on a Mac. Even Microsoft's own media player doesn't know what to do with that one. Have to take it to another machine and transcode it into a format that exists in the real world. Why anyone would wrap WMV9 in an AVI container is beyond me.
