One would assume that another's rep would suffer when they stand so strongly against pirates and then pirate themselves.

"an then pirate themselves"

self pirating, now that's a reputaion killer.

seriously though, in my experience reputation and reality have little corelation
Nov 03, 2005 jexkerome link
I agree with Lord Q. Specially about the self-pirating. Gotta try that some day...

Hehe. I see Smitt has said something and it has been turned into a nice joke. I know what he means though, and yes it should. And I think it has after that little "pirating" last night.

I just miss everything. I have no idea who you are speaking of :(

Harpo...

I, your clone, am also confused.

Either he is talking about him self, this is some sort of lame attempt at a personal flame that should have been kept in game, or he could be replying to the now deleted flame topic that so mysteriously taunts us.
Nov 03, 2005 greengeek link
It's more of the second one, Corbin, and when more of the issue is resolved, there will probably be more to say about it in a more friendly manner.

Flame removed. Please avoid using profanity when describing or addressing others.
Nov 03, 2005 KixKizzle link
Is this really worth the bandwidth?
Nov 03, 2005 smittens link
Did *I* use profanity? I honestly don't think so, I tried to make it so that those who wanted to would know what I meant, but it wouldn't be outright mean.

Anyway, by "pirate themselves" I mean they (themselves) pirate.
Nov 03, 2005 Forum Moderator link
Nope, wasn't you. It was the author of the post I deleted.
Nov 03, 2005 smittens link
Oooh, good.

Were the flames against me at least?
Nov 03, 2005 LeberMac link
Smitt, you need to be less of a jag sometimes, and stop kicking people when they're down. (That's Blackhole's job...)

But I *do* need to speak to the individual who is the object of this thread.
Nov 03, 2005 Dr. Lecter link
There's no profanity in this one, nor is it a flame (neither was my first post at 505pm), though I'm sure FM will exercise its unlimited discretion...

[EDIT]/me recalls "thread" and "post"... oops ;)

[EDIT DUX] See, deletion of an offending element need not remove the whole thing! /me suggests FM take lessons from the Sarahanne school of censoring... and don't plead lack of time to edit versus mere deletion ;)

Flame removed.
Nov 03, 2005 Harry Seldon link
Hahaaa. Good one [Sarahanne.] (edited for clarity)
Nov 03, 2005 Forum Moderator link
You think so, Harry?

I don't. We have the big 'ol hanging Be Nice page here at the entrance to the forums that sets the tone for what is acceptable here. I didn't write the page, but the devs asked me to enforce it. I monitor these forums several times a day as a favor to the devs and to the VO community. Mostly I put things where they belong, nudge threads back on topic, clarify points that may have been missed, provide some limited tech support, and field some of the questions that I know the answers to.

Occasionally, I have to deal with posts that violate the rules. It's not my favorite part of the job, but somebody has to do it because what happens here spills over to the game and vice-versa. It IS at my discretion, and I may occasionally be wrong, but I make every effort to do what I think is best. Not everyone will agree with every choice I make. I have and will continue to accept feedback regarding my decisions.

I don't deserve the rudeness.

Lecter: Your 5:05 post was clearly profane and a flame. There's no question in my mind. I do sometimes take the time to edit posts from people too new to know better, or perhaps if the post was valuable to the thread in some way aside from being a flame. I'm a volunteer (and a very committed one at that), so my time is my own to share as I see fit.
Nov 03, 2005 Harry Seldon link
I think it was a good mod, because it:
1. Dealt with the flame
2. Was entertaining at the same time, avoiding harsh feelings (hopefully)
3. It kept the environment friendly and 'nice' in the spirit of Sarahanne's lighthearted edit.

I wasn't complimenting Lecter's use of rude gestures. I thought Sarahanne cleverly dealt with the problem at hand.

Oops, sorry. (He edited it to make it clearer afterward.)
