Traders vs. Pirates Event.

Dec 11, 2005 jexkerome link
When: today at 2AM GMT, but I suggest you corral a Makchuga employee and verify this; you can also look for Genka, since he's teh Mastermind behind these cool little events.

Where: Greyspace. Th exact starting location/route will be secret until the event starts.

Okay... and WHAT is it: it's a PvP event between pirates and traders, duh!

More specifically, a trading group consisting of two to three traders in Behemoths and/or Centaurs with anywhere from five to six fighter escorts will be doing a number of runs of a very profitable trade good. The target is that each trader moves 1000 crates of the stuff, and then all of them sell it in one go for big profit, which will be shared in equal parts by the traders and their escorts alike.

The pirates can be as many as they want and organized as they see fit; their only objective is to bag the tradeships and run off with the cargo, as many times as they can get away with it.

This event emphasizes teamwork and communication on both sides, and teaches some valuable skills like blockading, blocakde running, cooperative/timed ops, and breaking off from an engagement. It is also a good event for using chat to coordinate people.

1AM GMT, cuz frankly, I'm still tired and sore from a day of paintballing and have school the next day.

Holiday shopping, can't make it.

You should plan these ahead you know.

Actually, it was planned ahead. Since last weekend, in fact.

genka was in charge of publicizing it on 100, so don't blame Joyce.

If you need PR/ADVERTISING/PUBLISHING, don't consult an amateur next time.
/me hands Joyce & Miharu his business card...

Anyway, the event is over. After hauling around the area of 1,500cus and a dropoff of participation from both sides, the results are in. The traders did not lose a single moth but this is probably due to the fact that only about 4 people attacked the massive convoy on it's route. There was little pirates turnout (/me glares at genka) and thus the convoy got four runs in without a hitch. Several escorts died however.

Fun was had by most and our only regret iis that more pirates didn't show up

Wow, as if anyone actually counted on fooz to show up and do something worthwhile.

I really wanted in on this, but blah, RL. Still, next time we don't see any pirates, I'll switch sides and have Jayce lose a few ships while attempting to get them traders.

I have to report that the event was a monumental success.

Damn pirates! There they are at the races claiming they deserve cash coz "they make the event fun", and then when we hold an event that actually REQUIRES them, they don't show up. Typical pirate stupidity...

A bit more notice would've been nice, true. We showed up moments before the convoy set out on its first run. I had some fun though. Nice to see people getting together to accomplish something.

Ok, you announce an event 2 hours and 15 minutes before its supposed to start?!

Niiiice....
Dec 12, 2005 jexkerome link
It's been announced INGAME for the last week, more or less constantly (in our gaming hours at least). However, I decided to post it on the forums when it was obvious Genka had been absent for a little while, and there was no one else from the bar online. As it is, apart from this nifty and productive conversation, I think this post actually didn't affect attendance at all.

Of course, last time the same thing happened (the pirates not showing up) the only difference being that Genka had actually contacted people that time, unlike now. Still, a lot of pirates actually arrived on their own and the event was a success, like this one, so it's not like much organization is needed.

I logged on as ScurvyMac in order to help the pirates, however, I was unable to damage any of the yellow traders. (Since ScurvyMac is, himself, yellow.) And my GovBus was, well, unable to catch even the Behemoths.

Ahhh well. I shot Monk outside the Corvus station and got 'sploded by SF, tho. T'was an ambush!

What? a pirate that still has good standing with his own nation? TEH SHAME!!! Even Jayce has managed to get himself KOS with the UIT, what in blazes are you smoking, LeberMac?!

Anyway, considering how little it takes to assemble such an event, it could be held weekly or so with no problems, and since you people always go mute whenever we ask you for times and days for such events, I'm going to arbitrarily set it for friday at 11PM GMT. Be there or be Gavan-I mean, square.
