Starbucks Ninja Background

Jun 08, 2006 smittens link
The pilot known as Starbucks Ninja began his life in Verasi I5, as Oron Zelaris. He was raised by his supposed parents Seto and Asala Zelaris. Most of his life was spent inside the station, though during his teenage years the pilot would often sneak out and fly through the asteroids and around the station, where he picked up many advanced flying techniques that would help him later in his life. Occasionally during a family vacation he would leave the sector, or even rarer, the system, but his parents (who had both rarely lived in one place longer than a week when they were children) believed firmly in establishing and keeping a home.

When he was fifteen, he was finally allowed to leave the station with his parents' consent. Taking advantage of the abundance of Xithricite, he began a career in mining, which would arrise later as a bit of irony. His parents were joyful that he took up such a peaceful life, which was likely the main factor that lead fate to end so twisted. One year for his father's birthday, Oron gave Seto a pure xithricite crystal on a cheap silver chain. Fashioned beautifully, it was almost pure lime green with only a few veins of darker green. No traces of the ugly dark rock it came from remained in the sliver on the necklace.

On his seventeenth birthday, Oron requested one thing: to be allowed to leave the system in order to sell his beloved minerals elsewhere for higher prices. His parents denied the request, and from such a trivial argument a heated fight ensued. It ended with, under his mother's horrified gaze, Oron ripped the necklace from his father's neck, and stabbed Seto through the heart, killing him. As his father for seventeen years died, Oron removed the crystal and sliced open the back of left hand. According to his mother's testimony he then muttered "Your blood is not mine," and, taking the necklace, left the station with no intention of returning.

For months afterwards, Oron went from system to system in grey space, doing odd jobs for the local stations when he could, and sleeping in a small bunk at the back of his vulture when he couldn't. During this period he was often attacked, abused, and beat up. Unable to defend himself from those who had friends in high places, Oron instead took up a gruesome habit to keep himself sane, or at least, to keep himself from growing more insane. For every person who took advantage of his weaknesses, Oron carved a notch into his left hand, off of the large scar he made on his 17th birthday. At most, thirty three notches resided, making his hand look almost like a ladder, though for every occurance that he took vengence on his enemies, he removed the respective notch with a healing device.

Eventually Oron was found by one Smittens, a rising Lieutenant in the Itani Secret Police. Smittens, looking for a recruit, took Orun under his wing. During this time period, Oron was pirated by Shape, the infamous and notorious marauder. However, instead of earning himself another notch, Shape inspired Oron with the fear he had felt as neutron blasts ripped through his hull and the cold unforgiving voice demanded credits. Oron realized that becoming a pirate himself would allow himself to take revenge on all those who had wronged him. However, when he shared this dream with Smittens, the lieutenant broke off contact with Oron immediately, afraid of becoming associated with a pirate.

But the damage had been done. Oron, with his new learned abilities, adopted the name Starbucks Ninja from two old Earth concepts. Within a week of beginning his pirating career, Starbucks killed twenty two other pilots, twelve of which had been on his "list." His abilities earned him notice of both Shape and another pirate, Borb II, both of which belonged to the pirate guild Black Lance. They recruited Starbucks to their ranks, though due to personality clashes he soon was on his own again.

One night, while jumping into Sedina B8, he noticed an Itani pilot being swarmed by Serco. Calculating his odds, he took the side of the Itani, and together they were able to finish off the Serco, at which point Starbucks noticed he had saved Smittens. Though Smittens claims Starbucks had always known he was the Itani being saved, the pirate maintains that it was all a coincidence. Whatever the motivation for his interference, Starbucks saving Smittens began a rough friendship between the two.

When things were dullone day, he took up residence in Sedina D14, already under Corvus control, and began calling it Starbucks Station. At random occasions, he would take defense of the station and charge attempted dockers, killing most who would not pay up. The exception of this was for pirates, for whom Starbucks would let dock for free. The actual political situation of the station is unknown. The Corvus Officials who are credited with owning the station have never been seen, and Starbucks obviously has some political power as one can tell by the fact that he is not constantly attacked by the stations strike force.

Starbucks considers himself an honorable pirate, and many who have met him would likely agree. He'll charge anywhere between 10 and 250 thousand credits when pirating, and other times he'll kill without offering a price to survive. He will also often be willing to do contract work, price to be determined. Anyone who actually cares about this pirate's background should know two final things. First, Seto was not in fact Starbucks' father, and second, there are still three revenge notches on his left hand.
