Presenting the Results of the 81st Deneb Run:

The Pilots

Mick- Union pilot and Councilor of PA; a veteran racer with a number of wins and very fast times.

Katrina Le-Feir- Union pilot and Councilor of PA; she races from time to time and usually does well.

Roda Slane- Union pilot and mercenary; this was his first race.

Spaceranger- Union pilot and Councilor of TGFT; he races from time to time.

LeberMac- Itani pilot and Lieutenant of ITAN; an old, skilled racer who was in a long hiatus.

The Results:

Katrina Le-Feir | 29:09 | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, Fast Charge Powercell, no weaponry
LeberMac | 29:41 | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, Fast Charge Powercell, no weaponry
Spaceranger | 31:14 | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, Fast Charge Powercell, no weaponry
Roda Slane | 34:30 | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, Fast Charge Powercell, Law enforcement neutron gun, Iceflare launcher
Mick | DNF | Vulture MkIII, Fast Charge Powercell, no weaponry

Notes:

1) All Hornets once more but for Mick, who didn't finish the race. So top prizes to the Hornet.

2) It was a very close race between Katrina and LeberMac, who were neck-to-neck all the time, one pulling away from the other as they took detours and/or hit storms; in the end, a storm in Odia cost LeberMac the top place.

Next week's Race is the EARLY SLOT

See you next saturday!

Did I miss a rule somewhere that said precaching is NOT allowed?

Cause next time I'll turn it on. And scout the route beforehand. And plot my course better. And drink MORE, because that clearly seems to help me. :)

And "HEY! I'm NOT Old, I'm thirty-seven!" (What movie?)

There's no rule about no precaching; the event is TGFT's and they have yet to pipe in on the subject. My take on it is:

1. It's unenforceable, and

2. It's just another issue, like PC power, ISP quality and location in regards to the VO servers that no one can control, and as such it must be allowed. Unless you also want to start imposing a "ping minimum" and "maximum PC stats" in order to ensure a "fair race", which is, obviously, total BS.

So precache if you can (I still can't).

Devastated by Mike-L's withering criticism, LeberMac crawls into a hole and dies.

Aaaah, yes. I won't be able to precache either :( But I will have a desktop for the next race :D! But it'll be equivalent to my old crashing computer :( But I won races in that, so there's hope :D! I think :( :D! >_>;

Oh noes! Don't die again! What kind of freaky Lexicon would emerge this time? >_>

An hint that goes totally against my interests:

If you scout the route beforehand, you will

1) Avoid storms like the last one in Odia M3. I knew it was there from my scout lap, and on that last route segment I won my race.

2) Load and cache all the relevant textures/structures, so to simulate precache as much as possible.

I don't complain that LeberMac has 15 rtt, while I can't go below 160, having to cross the ocean twice. Differently from lag, anyone can do something to simulate precaching with low RAM machines.

And thanks Joyce for hosting, and all runners for playing. It was fun.

In the interests of fair play, Due to my awesomeness, outrageous good looks, ...and oh yes my screaming LOW ping which usually averages around 14 ms, I shall refrain from precaching and/or scouting my route beforehand, which shall hopefully be enough of a handicap so that others may feel like things are somewhat fair.

To be honest, that's one of the reasons why I don't race much anymore, it's kinda unfair when the margin of victory is based on low rtt / ping, and not skill or planning or anything. If we all have the same ships and such, it usually comes down to who hits a storm and who doesn't.

So... yeah. I'll try to race more, then.
