REVELATIONS FROM GRAY SPACE

After months of exhaustive research, countless interviews and bribes, and the loss of beloved reporter Sally koshuni, CNN has finally uncovered evidence of a massive plot to subdue Gray Space and it's inhabitants, and revelations about how it may already be over. The plot is complex, the players, devious, and the endgame, sinister...

A LOOK BACK: THE WAR FOR LATOS

Ten months ago we brought you the story of a massive battle in Latos ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/14588 ) which kicked off a months long war between the denizens of Gray (primarily CLM and unaffiliated freelancers) and trade guilds (TGFT, CDC, ITAN, VIPER, and SSC). The war had massive repercussions that are still being felt today.

Throughout the war, all the involved guilds spent massive amounts of credit and political capital trying to defeat their enemies. The CDC was all but destroyed, ITAN has mostly retreated back to Itani Space (and continues to have oft reported troubles of their own) and the SSC has been mostly quiet since the war ended. The Guild of Free Traders, The Vipers, and the Cargo Liberation Movement emerged from the months long war mostly unscathed, although all continue to be affected by long term repercussions of the war.

The war finally ended in an undeclared stalemate. Some said it was not winnable, others claimed victory even as CLM retook possession of Latos H-2. Most observers agreed that all sides had given up, but more astute observers point out that at least 3 of the groups involved realized that control of (or freedom for, in the case of CLM) gray space could never be had through force alone. And so, plans were made...

OFF THE RESERVATION

In the days following the end of the Latos War, several CLM pirates (most notably tumblemonster) left CLM and engaged in relentless guerilla attacks against pilots deep within UIT space. In what can only be described as an obscene escalation of hostilities, CLM member tumblemonster executed ever more public and disruptive attacks on traders both in space and on com channels, and then promptly vanished. Most assumed this was the reaction of a frustrated pilot, but CNN has learned that the attacks were the first in a series of calculated actions meant for a much longer game...

As reported in January, ( http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/15873 ), tumblemonster's career came to an end after several suspicious transactions with lebermac. Many suspected tumblemonster had gone underground and reinvented himself as lebermac. CNN has since learned that this was yet another calculated misdirection by the pirate to draw attention away from his actual intentions. What were his actual intentions? Hide in plain sight, where no one would ever think to look...

A NEW LIFE AND A NEW MISSION

About the time TGFT began pursuing an alliance with The Vipers, tumblemonster ran an operation of his own. Underground and thought dead, tumblemonster began life anew as a fearless young pilot, and stepped into his ship for the first time. He began his career much like all pilots do, flying training missions, fighting drones and bots. He was fortunate to be supervised in his first days by two veteran pilots. These two vets noticed our young pilot was a bit awkward behind the stick, but definitely had potential. Two months went by, and this young pilot settled into life as a trader, building some wealth and learning to fight in his spare time. The veteran pilots again took notice, and after a lengthy evaluation, invited the young pilot to join their guild. A few months after he ceased to exist, tumblemonster became a Viper.

STRAINED ALLIANCES

Realizing their own designs on Gray Space couldn't be successful with only money and resources, The Guild of Free Traders sought to increase their strength through an alliance with a more militarized organization. After repeatedly being refused for fear of appearing preferential in TGFT's favor, The Vipers were finally convinced to (or paid enough to) accept a treaty with TGFT.

The public terms of the treaty stipulate mutual cooperation to fund anti-pirate activity and secure the trade lanes, but CNN has learned that there are back room plans being enacted to make use of TGFTs resources and Viper's military prowess to conquer Gray Space. While it's clear to most observers that a military action alone is not likely to be successful, insiders suggest a 2 pronged approach could be enough:

Says one observer, "If TGFT can leverage their numbers and trade prowess within Gray space while making use of the Vipers military strength to stifle competition, it's quite conceivable for TGFT to control gray completely."

Another man has this to say: "It's Blak! [The now disbanded Black Lance Guild -ed.] Has to be. They're like 50-armed puppeteers, pulling their strings all over the galaxy, steering every one of us toward their own devious end game!"

TGFT and The Vipers weren't the only guilds making moves in the background. In what may go down in history as the most misguided counter-intelligence operation in history, Miharu, Commander of the SSC, installed spies inside Coalition of Itan (ITAN) and the Serco Defense Net (SDN). As noted earlier, ITAN has entirely retreated to Itani Space, and SDN was mostly dead before the SSC's infiltration.

The Phoenix Alliance (PA), a quiet supporter of CLM in the first Latos War and the only trade guild based in Gray Space, pursued an alliance of it's own. PA reps tell CNN they began noticing a disturbing trend during and after the War.

Says one PA public relations officer: "TGFT has become much more militant inside gray space, not just against pirates, but against rival traders as well. We're concerned for our autonomy, and frankly, our freedom."

Understanding that PA's goals and CLM's were the same, PA pursued and gained a treaty with CLM to protect both guild's interests in Gray Space. CLM however, knew that PA's support alone wasn't going to be enough. Impavid had better do his job, and he did.

THE NEW WAR FOR LATOS

The Phoenix Alliance is ready to support and fight with CLM to retain autonomy for Gray Space. TGFT and The Vipers appear ready and willing to try to police Gray, but their numbers and presence has dwindled, and with the loss of Impavid, their most active pilot, the Viper's effectiveness is again in question.

Can a war for gray ever be won? Or has it already been fought by agents on the inside?

For the record, Itan was always aware of Miharu's presence...

so, is this a personal rant or rp-ing? coz' there's plenty out-of-character our-of-context poo in here.

You fail so incredibly hard, fumble. XD

This seems like a Borb-ism to me.

Wait... you mean I'm NOT tumblemonster?
Phew.

(Figures I'd hear about this at work. Consider this a placeholder until I've got some time to think).

I have to say, I had no idea about any of this until a few weeks ago. I was not too concerned about who Impavid was, I was more concerned that he was a threat. I think this is ace, it was so under cover, I hated Impavid!

Actually, this is probably one of the most misguided, out-of-context posts by tumble to date. Those two characters aren't spies, never were intended to be, and never will be.

My character in ITAN is there specifically so that I can take the BP/BS missions with a other people without having to beg on 100 (ie, just blowing shit up), and also because by and large (save two or three) I *like* the people in the guild and enjoy flying with them. In fact, that character has been in the guild for ages, almost a year at this point, WELL before the "Latos Conflict".

My character in SDN is only there because Aramarth *personally requested* that if I had a Serco character, to let him use it as a founding council. I don't use the character, and probably will end up deleting it in the near future to free up a character slot.

Something pretty damn ironic about this: tumble calls himself a roleplayer, and then proceeds to go blathering about alts of other players, when no doubt if someone decided to spill one of his alts publicly *coughcough*Samir On*coughcough*misspelled "Altas" of doom*coughcoughHACK* he'd go ballistic. You go around purposefully ruining other players' game time with stunts like this, and wonder why people strike back? Get a grip and figure out that maybe, just maybe they're doing it to you because you did it to them.

And by the way: thanks for finally getting the acronym right after almost a YEAR, you shit-faced hypocrite.

wait, miharu has an alt in itan?
/me hopes she didnt overhear some of the guildies talking about her.
Jun 18, 2007 LeberMac link
Um, yeah, Bean... it's pretty common knowledge.
You must not get out much.
Jun 18, 2007 smittens link
Bean, Miharu's alt came in when I was commander, and almost everyone knew about who she was. We let her stay in to be nice, and feigned ignorance to her identity.

Miharu, I think it's pretty funny how you've deemed yourself RP overlord, and you alone can determine who has the right to RP and who doesn't. You get so pissy when people break your rp "rules" and then decide that they don't have the right to RP anymore. If anyone else were arrogant enough to try to oversee your RPing, the bar would've been closed a long ass time ago.

[Edit: Also, Whistler, I'm sure you'll take care of it on your own, but I think "shit-faced hypocrite" is a bit too much, don't you?]

Overlord? Hardly. At least I'm not going around saying one thing and doing another like you or tumble do.

cant believe im saying this but i agree with smittens on this.

CLARIFICATION:

The Corvus News Network would like to clarify some facts in the above article, for our less astute readers:

-While the above article does expose infiltration actions against ITAN and SDN by Miharu of the SCC (with approval from LMNOP and CMYK), no names were made public. Karl Rove would disapprove...

-"Samir On" is an agent of CNN. So is "Samir Off" and "The incredible dull Hippy". We have no affiliation with "Ghost ALtas of Doom". Our spell checker still works.

Thank you,

CNN
