Serconian Defense Force Re-Activation
For those of you left from the Beta, you know who the SDF was.
For those of you who came after Release, you do not (most likely), so I will explain.
Several years ago, in the old 10-20 sector galaxy we called home, the Serconian Defense Force protected traders and other innocents from pirates and other undesirables while they traveled through Serco space.
Unfortunately, the group suffered massive setbacks and was eventually disbanded for political and strategic reasons (the SDF drew the eye of certain Itani Valkyrie pilots who could outmaneuver and shoot down our Vipers and Warthogs).
However, now I have returned, the original leader of SDF, to reactivate it to combat merciless piracy and stop the oppression of the weak. I do not expect the best fighters and the best performance to start, all I expect is sound moral character to protect those otherwise incapable of protecting themselves.
Since I have been out of the game since Beta stepped up to the new massive galaxy, my adaptation will be slow (Im also currently moving and attending fulltime University), so if there is someone who knows this willing to help, I would appreciate it. I need a good XO, as my old one, [SDF] Black 2, has retired as far as I can tell (If you are out there 2, contact me).
Sincerely,
[SDF] Black 1
Commanding Officer
Serconian Defense Forces

Good luck!
You're going to need it.

Allow me to bring you up to date sir. There are no less than five Serco guilds with at least one active player. In order of activity level they are: SCAR, SAF, SDN, SoR, and ST6. Their dispositions are, in the same order, aggressive, aggressive, defensive/training, unknown, and black (meaning what I know of their activities I cannot share). SAF has taken a leading role in CtC, while SCAR would be my gut reaction for the most active on the Deneb front. The other three combined have less activity than either of the first two alone. If you want more information about any of the above, contact me.
As far as forming another guild is concerned, it has been our reality for some time that the "new pilot" base is far more active on the blue side. Those who do put on red uniforms are sometimes fought over between the existing guilds. If another guild is to be formed from within this small pool, others will need to be absorbed, and all our missions revised. Paramount must be the active training of new players to fill out the ranks, and this is why I formed SDN several months ago. Unfortunately, other duties came up, as they always do in the military (ooc: I was activated for deployment to Iraq so the guild's training activities ceased). The niche that the Serco need filled at this time is active attention to new players in order to equalize our numerical disadvantage. Make the game fun for the new guys so that they keep coming back, basically. ANY of the current guilds could take on this task, not just mine, but no one has.
If driving away pirates is your true calling, the Vipers are recruiting too. If you want to take the fight to the Itani, SCAR and SAF are looking for you. If you feel like investing in tomorrow's players, help me get SDN back on its feet. Please do not shove a knife into the guts of the Serco by forming yet another guild (assuming there are even nine unguilded red pilots to join you).
Again, if you want more information about any of the above, contact me. Welcome back to the fight.

SDF would probably be the only active guild I (as a Serco character) would join. SAF is all about CtC, and I'm not a big CTC fan unless I'm really bored; SCAR is too piratey for me and has too many players which I don't get along with very well. The other guilds are dead, and even if they weren't I wouldn't join them for the same reasons.
Forming many guilds isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as each guild has it's specified role and doesn't compete for space.

Well, too many guilds is a problem considering the number of active reds there are.
But the general red population doesn't tend to cooperate so asking for them to merge is pointless.
So, given this, more than few is better because it might augment the chances that one of them will attract more people. They could use a TGTF- or ITAN- size guild. Minus the inactive.
So, good luck Black 1.

My thoughts are that SDF pilots are not forced into alliegance to only one guild.
SDF Pilots are not nessicarily tagged, they are not forced to make patrols and are not hardline fighter pilots at the bid of a general.
The SDF is engineered from the days of the Beta when there was similar problems with low recruitment. Thus SDF pilots are basically "reserve" pilots, flying when they can for the cause and occasionally participating in large scale SDF and Allied Forces assaults.
My hope is that the re-activated SDF will be able to not only have dedicated full-time pilots (like myself) but also share independant pilots and pilots from other guilds such as SCAR and SAF. My hope is that this will truely tie in the operations of Serconian armed forces and make Serco safer.
I welcome any and all pilots of sound moral character to fly with me. My only requirements are that you fly SDF as much as you can spare (even without a tag, if you can help enforce SDF anti-piracy doctrine).
If I catch an SDF pilot engaging in an act of piracy or another intentional act of moral turptitude, they will be discharged from the SDF and letters of reprimand will be transmitted to all other Serconian armed forces units and to the headquarters of Itani and UIT operations so they are aware that the pilot is no longer a sanctioned SDF member who falls under our protection should they engage.
I hope this makes the idea of a reincarnated SDF a little more appealing to you all. And I look forwards to forming close ties with similarly minded groups for mutual assistance. I have already had contact with a senior leader of the VIPER group, and it appears that the Vipers and SDF may share common missions in the near future.

If I don't have to lose my SoR tag, I'll gladly join the SDF, and toshiro kanchou will, too...
This all sounds so familiar
Toshiro, you interested in being the XO of the unit? I remember you were a sound pilot. If you're not interested it's no problem though.
Fair warning, for the old vets that remember the SDF from 3-4 years ago, there is going to be a shift in how we act. The old SDF at times became loose cannons and shifted from their original mission to attacking and killing Itani. While I respect that a war is occuring, I do not want loose cannons and wanton destruction, espically of allied groups (ex: Vipers).
If you are engaged, it is one thing, but please do not provoke war between allied groups while you're flying under the SDF flag.
The SDF is no longer going to defend Serco Space and Serco Traders alone, we now need to move outside Serco Space and protect ALL traders inside Grey Space.

Ooo, another meddling anti-pirate group for me to toast.
The Void awaits you, [SDF].

Nautargos,

Black 2 was a cool dude, so you probably are too. I can't wait to shoot you! :)
From what i've seen ingame only two somewhat successful serco guilds can exist at one point in time. At one time it was Scar and ST6 then it was scar and core then it was core and sdn then scar got back on its feet and core got disbanded so it was scar and sdn now saf has formed and taken sdn's position.
Who knows which one will get bumped next and which new one will form or old one will return to the spotlight.

More importantly, who cares.
Pyro, I am hardly on these times, I should be a shabby XO (although the post would be tempting, no doubt about that). So I have to respectfully decline.
Thanks toshiro, if you ever do become more active ingame, drop me a line. You're a good pilot, and while I can't promise you a position as XO, I will try and get you a good position.
As for everything, the SDF hopes to avoid causing those mass difficulties that previously existed with recruiting (that allowed only 2 groups to exist successfully at once), by using volunteer members from all walks of Serco space.
As for contacting anyone in game, I am presently undergoing a major move from my house to an apartment, and the transition is going less than smoothly. The apartment is giving me a little run around, so it will likely be a week or so before I am back ingame (not to mention I need to pay for another 2 year subscription). Additionally I just restarted another year in college, and my Justice and Addiction Studies courses are keeping me fairly well detained right now. If anyone is interested in contacting me, I am currently working on a revamped SDF website, and I will post a URL and working email address here once it is online so you can contact me privately out of the game.
For the time being, please post here however.
Thank you,
