anti-pirate alliance

Oct 21, 2008 blacknet link
Am curious here, what guilds/groups/individuals would be interested in forming an anti-pirate alliance?

The alliance would:

.) help defend nation space (itani, serco and UIT) from invading pirates any time of the day.

.) help other alliance members regain faction loss for any participation in anti-pirate activities.

.) share intelligence such as location, ship loadout, intentions, trade routes, activity, etc. on pirates.

I, as an emissary of (k)', would be happy to join said alliance.

:)

Being a pirate is already hard enough.
really chasing anything that doesn't want to get caught is extremely hard.

From an RP POV i vote yes

From a gameplay POV i vote no

so ill stay neutral :P

this is purely a personal opinion and should not be interpreted as Itans view towards this.

Seeing how I've been labeled a pirate more times than not, and am always looking for a good (or not) excuse to blast someone...

Go for it.

No more small talk for you. Come back and kill traders:)

The reality is, if a pirate has enough ability to evade the turrets, no pursuing pilot- Viper or otherwise- will ever catch them. Vipers could outnumber the pirates 4 to 1 and still not make a difference in nation space when it comes to chasing them down.

You, as traders, do not need more Vipers. You do not need better ships. You do not need an alliance. What you need is to stop living in the past and start employing lead-escort tactics.

It is really very simple. Have some knucklehead in a fighting ship scout a sector before you jump to it. Pirates do not presently pick fights with a vulture in nation space- the SF is maybe a sector behind and they want bigger fish. And that's it, gents. Just add a single scout, and wait in an empty sector till he says you're clear. This isn't brain surgery. I can't even count how many escorts that Strat and I have completed over the past year, and we've taken losses only when instructions aren't followed.

P.S. love the necromancy, norseman

Or when you are plain unlucky with a dedicated (nuts) pirate. I agree Aramarth. VPR are at worst a nuisance for us, how can they be anything else?

With the game mechanics the way they are currently, you can't catch anyone who doesn't want to be caught, including pirates. Since you can't effectively hunt a pirate who doesn't want to be caught, the best way to fight them is by escorting traders, which is extremely effective with the current game mechanics. Like Aramarth said, we have a nearly perfect record for escorts. Not only do the traders make it to their destination safely, the pirates usually don't even know the trader was ever there. That's a bit more than just a "nuisance" for pirates, assuming the traders actually request escort.

Anyway, The Vipers are always willing to work with any friendly players or guilds to help secure free trade. All 3 of the points that blacknet mentioned above are things that Vipers do. Feel free to contact us in-game or on our website if you'd like to take advantage of our services or join our cause.

Don't get me wrong Strat.
When you do like described and escort properly, we have a lot of problems getting the traders, especially if you ensure that we are kept in the dark about their location. It is when you have no co-ordination that VPR is a nuisance and nothing else in relation to pirating.
