O brother, where are thou?

Draugen was on a typical, and rather boring, patrol of the Deneb worm hole space when the incoming message alert chimed.

"Oh great, it's probably just the commander run out of biscuits again...", he thought as he opened the channel.

"....are you there? Brother, are you there?!....eed help immediately...vy resistance at Pelatus sector...again...atus sector K-3!"

"Vardonx? Vardonx, it's me Draugen...repeat what you just said! Can you hear me?" replied Draugen as he turn the communication function to full military broadcast power.

"I hear you. Draugen, I need your help in Pelatus sector K-3 immediately. Tell no one, I will give you command authorization codes, transmit them immediately to [ONE] HQ -- they will authorize your release to my command on behalf of the Security Council. And brother, hurry! If I'm not here when you arrive follow my ion trail -- I found it Draugen! I found it!...."

"Vardonx, what have you found? What?" But with that the comm link went dead. "At least I got the authorization codes..."

------------

Pelatus K-3 was a very non-interesting sector. It also had no other ships scannable on radar when Draugen arrived. He faintly detected what must be the ion trail of his brother's ship, however and started to follow it. About 200k meters from the jump point it just ended. "Odd....", he thought.

And suddenly it was there! A worm hole where no worm hole should be right at the end of the ion trail. Punching in full military thrust on his SCP, Draugen jumped through the worm hole.

------------

"Alert! Alert! Incoming Serco military traffic" blared the alarm. It was one of the few things left working at 100% on the ship. "I must go help Draugen escape them...."

------------

As soon as the jump was complete, Draugen knew he was in trouble. This was no known position on his nav computer. And to add to his problems there were a dozen or so small fighters bearing straight for him and opening fire...

Just then he detected another SCP jumping into the sector. "Draugen follow me to these jump coordinates, those ships can only jump one sector at a time..."

------------

"So now what?" Draugen asked his brother Vardonx

"As you know I at times do 'special' work for the Security Council. We had reports of ships disappearing in Pelatus. At first we wrote it off to Itani marauding, as it was a short run from here back to Itani space. But my contacts revealed it was ships of all nations, and all classes."

"I was doing a sector by sector scan, when I saw the same worm hole that brought you here open up...and close again a few minutes later. I waited some few hours and it happened again. This time three ships came though an immediately attacked. They were of a seemingly more primitive design than our own SCP's, and much smaller as you saw."

"I opened fire destroying two, the last one making a run for it. I radioed you and proceeded through the worm hole. I was immediately attacked by some thirty ships of lighter design than those I had met in Pelatus. I destroyed many of them, but numbers started taking their toll and I jumped to safety."

"I'm really sorry to tell you this last bit though, Draug..." Vardonx began with a frown. I went back some time later and waited for the hole to appear. I never did. It *only* seems to appear when a ship of the first type I encountered is preset -- until we can figure out how or why that is so, we are stuck here."

"But where is here?" asked Draugen, confused.

With a very serious and sombre tone Vardonx replied, "I'm not sure, Draug. Until we know more we are totally lost with no way of ever returning....."
