IC/ OOC?

Feb 15, 2009 Tseng Toumoku link
First, I would like to say, "hi" as I am the new guy here, so nice to meet you all and impressive game! Now, to my question. This does remind me much of Eve and I suppose, as the new guy, this might be the right place to ask this question. If not, forgive my ignorance. Since many of you are familiar with Eve Online, is this forum section much like the Intergalactic summit? I notice a lot of out-of-character posts and threads here. Is this right or should everything in this section of the forum be in-character like the IGS is? I know that to use words like "character" "player", internet slang, and other OOC words are forbidden at the IGS. Does the same hold true here? Thank you.

While this forum is similar to the IGS, it is not heavily moderated (partly due to a small number of moderators and a lack of traffic volume) and so there a (rigid) set of rules specific to this forum does not exist.

It is entirely up to you whether your posts are IC or OOC, and it is generally left to the reader to determine if a given post is IC or not. Some people will use some sort of notation for OOC, like bracketing their text with () or <> (this seems to be fairly common for ingame RP a number of games including EVE, less so in VO due to the smaller number of active RPers here), and some will make sections at the bottom of their posts for OOC stuff. Some will use other systems entirely -- but you shouldn't have any trouble figuring them out.

This reminds me that I probably should update the index thread sometime this week...

I probably do most of the moderation in the forums, and am pleased to say that we're not that fussy around here. The description of this forum is "Discussion of in-game events, organizations, and the like.", which is pretty loose.

As well as the posting of RP stories, different kind of Rp activities and the like. You'll see quickly enough what is RP and what is not...

But to make it short and quote the good Dr.: No

btw, welcome:)

Ah. Thank you. I do notice with some concern that there are quite a few who don't seem to know how to handle RP and reply a lot in OOC to RP threads. Roleplay is simply an engine of creating a character with history, culture, story, and purpose. Those purposes will naturally colide with others but it is hardly reason for personal anger-- this is after all, only a game.

I intend to have quite a bit of fun with the Serco character I've chosen, though I believe he will not be typically orthodox to what I see is the stereotype. Every nation has it's good and bad; the dishonorable, the honorable, and every one in between. Speaking of story, do you know where I can get some valuable back-story? The IG description is extremely vague. Is there anything on Serco and ITAN( Or whatever it is) culture, customs, history, ideals, etc? Thank you you all hope to take part in some good RPs. ;)

Dude, see that bar over on the left? See the link that says "backstory"? I'm guessing that'd be a pretty good place to find the backstory. :)

Be warned, though - it's mammoth.

That aside there are several stories that give flavour to the various factions. See the thread

http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/7/15435

for pointers. It is not quite up to date but still gives a good over view of the stories. That aside you can always contact me if you need help with the RP aspects/ideas even if I am (mainly) a UIT pacifist:).

Sheesh Hortan, I already said in my response I'd try and update the index thread this week, no need to rub it in. -.-

lil note on the backstory: Just keep in mind that it's written by an itani monk and it's very itani biased.

(btw, wasn't CP somewhere in the past writing a serco side to the story?)

Heh, thank you guys. Yeah... in understanding the backstory, it might have helped a little to look a the link that said--"backstory". *sigh* Such lack of attention happens when you have a busy life and little sleep. :D

As for what I read, I did enjoy it quite a bit. I suspect that if the ITAN are as open-minded as they project themselves to be that the Serco verson may not be too altered; but then who knows. I would tell you what I plan my character to be like; but then I'm still hashing him out. And besides, its roleplay. Where'd be the fun in spoiling it all? You'll know soon enough. In the meantime, thank you for all the help and hope to see you in void. ;)

Open-minded? See the second half of Section 9, the Monks of Akan.

Yeah, but that's just the Akanese. :P

Don't hate MSKanaka :)
Feb 19, 2009 Tseng Toumoku link
Indeed, however it doesn't seem to be written from the POV of a monk of Akan as it sheads too much negativity to their past and their actions. Of course, whos to say the Monks of Eo are as benevolent as they claim? They seem to beatify themselves and come across as open-minded and passivist. It's possible that they may not be as objective or reasonable as they initially appear. Grr! More backstory from more point of views! That's what we need. :D
