Pirate or anti-pirate?
I'm not sure which I want to be. Convince me
Be a privateer. Then you're pirating for your nation. And you can also escort traders of your nation! Just a simple merc, nothing bad about that...

If you just want to kill stuff, you should probably be a pirate. If you are pretty torn between pirate and anti-pirate, you should probably be a pirate. There are several pirate guilds to choose from, or you can be independent. If you want to be an anti-pirate, you really have to have a desire to help people and to restrict your actions with a strong code of honor and ethics. In other words, it's really a lot harder to be an anti-pirate, at least if you want to be a Viper (which is the only anti-pirate guild). Vipers spend a lot of their time escorting traders, reporting pirate activity, and running patrols. Vipers do this because they like helping people and this is what they have fun doing. It's not for everyone. Play the game and get a feel for how things work, but like I said before, if you are just looking for some basic no-brains action, pirate is probably the way to go. If you want to know more about being an anti-pirate, you can start by looking at these links.

I'm whatever I feel like on even given day. I'll do trades and mining one day, PvP in Sedina the next, BS or BP the next, grief a few people if I want, its whatever. Until I figure out what's for me I'm just going to be doing everything-- though killing stuff always is satisfying... =D
that is the right attitude Tseng. Eventually you'll figure out what kind of character you want to portray, especially if you are into RP.

What exactly is a privateer?
What exactly is a privateer?
A dishonest pirate that hides behind nation guilds.
If you want to become a pirate, do so all the way. That at least is honest.
It is not up to us to persuade you, it is up for you to figure it out yourself.

For a time, Trakus Shar was a strict Itani privateer. Any Serco ship was fair game, and Shar also announced that any traders found conducting business with the Dominion would be shot. He then spent a lot of time flying between Deneb and Helips/Ukari, shooting any traders that were in, or were seen entering/leaving, Serco space. (For those confused, Shar is red now but was blue then.)
The reaction was a lot of "free trade for all!" and "you're just the same as a pirate!" noise from [TGFT]. Which, of course, was hilarious and encouraged yet more shooting. So, contrary to Azumi's sanctimonious, empty-headed little rant, "privateer" can be a fun RP. Get enough people together, and mini-blockades of and economic attacks on your Nation's enemies could be an interesting game to play.

Should I be pro-RP or anti-RP? Convince me.
Should I obliterate cocky newbs on sight or not. Convince me.
Cheddar or Swiss? Convince me.
Waffles or pancakes? Convince me.
Mining or strip-mining? Convince me
Front door or back door? Convince me.
Chains or whip? Who cares, we'll do both
