Deneb Run #141

Mar 21, 2009 diqrtvpe link
The Makchuga and the CDC are proud to bring you The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** The TIME will be 4PM Eastern Standard Time, 1PM Pacific, 9PM Saturday GMT (Or 21:00) ***

*** Please take note of the modified ship rule! ***

The race progress announcements will be announced on Channel 500

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 12 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) There is a maximum eight-racer limit (seven if there is only one MC), or four racers per group. This is to allow the MCs to actually be able to MC the race and keep track of all the racers. Spots are first-come, first-served, with a priority on those who post to this thread. The group sizes may be increased if the MCs can handle it and there is enough interest on a given week. (new rule)
4) Contestants must be within 100m of the MC(s) before the start
5) No shooting before the race starts.
- Depending on the severity of the infraction, and at the host's (or hosts') discretion, violation of this rule can result in not only a disqualification for the current race, but also a ban from winning prize money as either a racer or an anti-racer in future Deneb Runs. (new rule extension)
6) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
7) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #11.
8) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (6 million credits)
9) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (4 million credits)
10) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (2 million credits)
11) Valkyrie ships are not allowed. Greyhounds will not be allowed this race, they will be vetted for future races.
12) Attempting to trigger a false start of the race is grounds for disqualification.
13) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:

Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers participating.
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run.
If the above pre-conditions are met, up to half of the total available prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest racer-kill prize money (3 mil, 2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest racer-kill prize money (2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest racer-kill prize money (1 mil or 0)

Unclaimed prize money (up to 50% of the total the prize payout) will be added to the next Run's pot.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

Just to reiterate, Corvus Greyhounds will not be allowed this race. Miharu will explain.

The decision to disallow the use of the new Corvus Greyhound for this race is, for the moment, for this weekend's race only. It is not necessarily permanent.

Next week's Deneb Run will allow (and encourage) the use of Greyhounds as a test of how much they affect the playing field. Depending on the results of that race (and possibly one or more others), a final decision will be made on whether to include or exclude the Corvus Greyhound from subsequent Deneb Runs.

Many thanks to Denji for hosting the Deneb Run this weekend.

Out of curiosity, why the wait?
Mar 21, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
Prediction: whatever the record is (Ghost in an old Rune?) will be shattered next week, and the Hound will be banned.
Mar 21, 2009 diqrtvpe link
The wait is so that Miha can see the Hound race in person, rather than having to use an intermediary to relay its usefulness or lack thereof. The good Doctor is most likely right, but it will be interesting to watch, at least! :)

The fastest time is 26:36, by Erik C. in an EC-107, recorded in Deneb Run #61.

My hope is that people who are good at racing will show up next week so that we can get a more accurate look at how well it will change things.

One does need to take the border turrets into account; if the Greyhound has just as much trouble getting past those as everything else does then it might not be necessary to ban it. Once the faction redux takes place, I do predict that the Run will become much harder for Itani and Serco...

===The Racers===
Breazle - Union - long-time racer
Ishathis Bessuni - Itani - been in a few races
Jestatis Bess - Itani - long-time racer

===The Results===
Breazle | 31:30 | OHCG, FC
Ishathis Bessuni | 33:00 | OHCG, FC
Jestatis Bess | 33:30 | OHCG, FC

===Observations===
This was a great race. Jess fell behind at first, through some storms, but then everyone else was hitting storms left and right. The race was extremely close throughout all of red and blue space, with Breazle and Ish trading first back and forth. Ish finally hit one storm too many and Breazle shot ahead of him in Pelatus. There were times when they were literally within a second of each other through wormholes, it was very exciting. Next week will be the greyhound trials, so think about showing up and giving it your all!

Border turrets can and do erase speeding Hounds.
Mar 22, 2009 JestatisBess link
Usually the people who race recently are liked by all factions. I don't think the turrets will make a big difference.
Mar 22, 2009 Dr. Lecter link
Once the faction redux takes place, I do predict that

The point, JB, is that in the future, Serco and Itani standing will be mutually exclusive, meaning that racers will have to choose at least one set of turrets to dodge, unless they're UIT.

That LSAT also has reading comprehension and logical reasoning sections. I do predict that they'll eat you alive.
Mar 22, 2009 maq link
The way i understand it, you'll just not be able to max out both, but you'll be able to stay at least not KOS with both, regardless of your nationality. (tho it'd be easier for UIT)
Mar 22, 2009 JestatisBess link
Dr. Lecter: well you passed. :) No one knows what the future will bring, but i and most others think you won't be able to have POS with both but you should be able to get respect or admire with both. So like i said turrets won't matter.

edit fixed my grammar a little :)
Mar 22, 2009 yodaofborg link
Bess, you fail so badly at talking.

*Know one knows" should be "no one knows" or "no-one knows" or even "nobody knows", know is a word meaning "to know something".

You also fail at breathing, it's really one breath in till you turn blue, stop this breathing in-and-out thing you do.

[edit]

Also Neutral with both will be best you can ask for bess, aint you read the shit about not having prom and valk at the same time? Fail fail fail, good luck with your future, I predict a bum.

Leave me alone i been writing reports all day. And i don't spell check or grammar check my posts here. And yes i do it for my papers.

My point still stands though unless the turrets are drastically changes they shouldn't be a problem for most racers.
