Actually if you read through the old threads there is a lot of old "wars" that were put together. Nation War developed from the early ones. The big difference between then and now is that their is only really 3 major player event that I hear about: Nation Wars (weekend), Nation Wars (week), and the Deneb Run.
The other player events are smaller and don't happen nearly as often.

Nation War was started by me, actually. And it didn't develop from any other event, more like from guilds fighting each other anyway. Thought it'd be fun to make it a three-nation battle with prizes. Also, Elimination style matches in FPSes (like Halo) provided a good part of the inspiration.

Breazle, that ain't a Nation War, that's you getting ganked on a normal day :P

I only said it that way was because there had been other wars before I saw the post for NW. Such as "roid wars".
