The hell shlim is is on vacation and suffering from a sudden loss of intertube connectivity. I have returned from my trip, however, and will tell the tale once again.

Ok, new chapter added to first post. It has been rewritten slightly. Sorry for the delay.
Oct 20, 2009 Cat P link
Cat's Vulture was a pleasant sight and she relaxed slightly at the apparent salvation that lay in front of them. A crack from a projectile that passed overhead and impacted violently in the reinforced plasteel wall, fracturing it like if it had been glas, focused her mind fantastically. Without thinking, the battlemind programming she had been given as a present from Riddik took over and she kicked Shlim's legs away from under him at the same time she pushed him hard in the chest. Shlim dropped into an undignified heap behind a duralloy crate with a loud crash that went unheard over the noise of explosive tipped large bore bullets that stitched a pattern of impact craters on the back wall and the crate he was behind. Cat ducked into the other side as quickly as she could. From across the corridor, Shlim adjusted his hat and looked up at her with slightly wide eyes. She tried to handsignal him with the standard Sercan battle signals but his still wide eyes betrayed that he did not understand. Instead she shouted across the whip-like cracks of bullets.

"I'll distract them. Run to my vult and get in the pilot seat. Keep the cargo bay open, I'll dive in. Nod if you understand.

To her relief she saw him nod slowly and get ready to run. Cat hefted the heavy gyrock gun and with a fluid motion born of endless training hours in the creche simulators as well as in actual combat she whipped the gun around the corner and fired a trio of shots in quick succession. The triplet of booms was the clue she needed to peek around the corner at hip level and send a quick fourth shot into the chest of a heavily armoured soldier that was standing in the corridor. The shot impacted just under his left nipple and tore his entire back off and sprayed it onto his buddies behind him. They quickly sought cover from the lethal gun and Cat nodded to Shlim. He ran off quickly towards the Vulture and one of the soldiers risked sticking head out to take a shot at him. The gyrock impacted under his nose and ripped his head apart as if it had been an over-ripe melon. Cat knew that she only had one shot left and started backing towards the Vulture, keeping her focus on the corridor. The bay was as silent as a morgue at this time and she could clearly hear the cargo bay door on the Vulture open and the engine slowly stirring. Apparently, so could the soldiers and a weapon appeared in the corridor spraying bullets towards Cat. She sidestepped and blew the weapon apart with her last gyrock round before she turned and ran for the Vulture. She made it. Well, almost. The explosive bullets impacted all around her as the soldiers fired in the blind down the corridor and one of them hit their mark. She felt a sharp pain in her left thigh as one round tore most of the muscle away and tossed her aside like a ragdoll. Using her brainpal to shut out the pain and close the arteries that had been severed, she crawled towards the cargo bay with her hands. Another bullet hit her side and her brainpal informed her that her kidney and most of her intestines had been ripped away from her body. She knew that if she hadn't been Sercan, she would have been dead and she knew that if she didn't get into the cargo bay, it wouldn't matter that she was Sercan. A shot impacted close to her head and sent floor panel splinters into her face. They were getting close now. Only two metres. A large boom came from the Vulture, quickly followed by a series of explosions from the corridor. She felt and then saw through the blood that was running into her eyes Shlim grabbing her and pull her the last two metres, his mouth moving without sound. She activated her speech recognition software and ran his mouth movements through the programme.

"Don't you fucking die Cat or I'll kill you."

She grinned and gave him a thumbs up before her brainpal shut non-essential body functions off. The hard acceleration of the Vulture didn't even hurt. She just hoped he would do the sensible thing and head to Viper station.
