I haven't flown against VPR very much, but I have flown against CHRN recently, and I can assure you, Impavid, that all the above accusations you make against VPR are at least equally true against members of your own guild. There are honourable members of CHRN and dishonourable members of CHRN. I agree with your ideals, but not with your apportioning of the blame.
This thread makes me smile. When, oh when, will the forums be nerfed to prevent whining?
And a word to the wise: being loud and repetitive does not make you right. Though he didn't intend to, I believe former President G.W Bush taught that lesson well.
(I smell thread derailment!)

I've been starting some real doozy threads lately:
The Meat thread is on page 5 bazillion or something
The last NW thread about NAPs and such and now this one.
I have the Midas touch.

Haven't seen one of those for a while.

No whining from me at all...
My only point is that those who engage in these kind of fights are not doing so for the sake of some objective(Because there aren't any in this game currently). They're fighting to have fun with "teh pew pew". When one side feels like they're the only ones respectfully handing over pk's when they lose, calling them "whiners", or calling running from a skirmish "A valid tactic", is just mean-spirited.
Running is a valid tactic in the sense that you can do it at any time, from almost any battle, in almost any ship. Not for naught do we have rules in the Nation War that prevent players from leaving the asteroids. (To this day, I'm astonished that traders get caught by just 1 pirate)
In that sense, PvP is actually quite consensual in this game (much to my chagrin, I'd like the devs to take the non-consensual aspect more seriously, but meh...ain't gonna happen). Hence, a skirmish is really just players looking to have fun fighting. So when I play, I try to avoid strategies which are going to be boring for my opponent.
Sure, theoretically, maintaining my distance and sitting 250m from a prom will probably win the fight, eventually (statistically, my neuts will hit, even if it takes an hour). Would this be a fun fight for my opponent? No. How about for me? Certainly not. So why on earth would I play that way?
Hence, I do things in fights that people consider insane, swinging around up close and personal with every jockey I run into. (And man do I eat a lot of flares... but I win a lot of those fights too)
I do this because it makes the fight fun for them as well as me. Is it a foolproof strategy? No, but it's a hell of a lot more fun.
So, my first condition for all my fights is to play in such a way that we step away from the keyboard feeling like we just rode a bull. Sometimes that means charging into a group of 5 people, to my certain destruction. But only after that first condition is met, do I start considering my strategy.
I know this won't make me the best (especially not in this age of flares), but if I wasn't furballing, VO would become a cubicle-esque job.
So why on earth would I run from a fight to repair? Its just another boring tactic which will make my gameplay less enjoyable, WHILE making my opponent's gameplay less enjoyable too. Lose-Lose

Hahaha Perfect! Shape yer my hero!
Well said. Though I should make it clear my comments were not directed to the more level-headed among us. They were directed more at the "do what I say not what I do" characters who seem so insistent on their infallibility.
Lest I stoop to a flame war, I will take my leave of this thread. If you would like to discuss these issues further with me, please contact me ingame, on IRC, via my guild's website, or via my guild email (which can be seen on my wiki page). Good day all.

Pure win, Shape. Pure win.
