hide and seek

Sep 28, 2009 wdebeaum link
Given the new radar occlusion feature, here is my proposal for a hide and seek event:

1. Setup
a. All players home in Sedina.
b. All players gather in an empty sector (Sedina H-14) one jump away from the event sector (Sedina H-15).
c. One player is selected (at random) to be "it" for the first round.
d. That player remains in the empty sector while the rest of the players go to the event sector.
e. They have 2 minutes to hide among the roids.
f. Then "it" jumps in.

2. For each round:
a. "It" searches the event sector for one of the other players.
b. When he/she finds one, the two fight one-on-one (no other players may join in).

c. If only "it" dies:
i. He/she is out and may not return to the event sector except to observe in an EC-class ship, outside the roid field.
ii. The victorious opponent becomes "it" for the next round (without leaving the sector to repair/reload).

d. If "it" dies first, and then "it"'s opponent dies second:
i. Rule (2ci) applies.
ii. The victorious opponent becomes "it" for the next round, as soon as he/she returns to the event sector.

e. If only "it"'s opponent dies:
i. "It" goes and hides (without leaving the sector to repair/reload).
ii. The defeated opponent becomes "it" for the next round, as soon as he/she returns to the event sector.

f. If "it"'s opponent dies first, and then "it" dies second:
i. "It" returns to the event sector first, and hides.
ii. "It" tells the defeated opponent to return.
iii. The defeated opponent becomes "it" for the next round, as soon as he/she returns to the event sector.

3. Endgame
a. Eventually, only one player will remain hiding.
b. They have the option of waiting for "it" to find them, or just coming out on their own.
c. Then these last two players will fight.
d. The victor of that fight (the player who survives, or dies second) is the winner of the game!

4. Other rules
a. Same weapon restrictions as Nation War: no swarms, lmines, biocom mines, or pets are allowed.

I'm thinking of hosting the first hide and seek event after Nation War next Sunday 2009-10-04. I'm willing to put in 2,000,000 credits for prize money (to be paid to the winner). Others may donate more if they wish (I think spidey and TaoClown mentioned wanting to donate). I'm also open to suggestions about improving the rules.

Sounds fun, but a bit time consuming and boring for the 'not it' players, so I doubt you'd want more than 4 or 5 playing at a time.

Perhaps a modified version of tag, where using the droid training blasters to 'make the tag' without doing damage. The 'it' player enters the sector, finds a victim, try's to tag them, if successful, the victim becomes it and can either look for a new target or go after the first it person. This could work if you use a sector with a smallish roid field that is fairly compact and require all players to stay within the roid field. Also, since keeping track of who is 'it' would be chaotic at best, everyone becomes a threat.

Yeah, I thought it might not be fun for a large number of players, but I figured I'd see how many people showed up first ;) I thought maybe we could get around the issue by allowing multiple "it"s ("they"?), who would then search different parts of the roid field.

The training blaster idea is interesting... I agree it would be difficult to keep track of who's "it". I know I sometimes don't notice that I've been hit ;)

Could set hit flash intensity to 100%? I normally keep it low because I find the flash blinding and it makes me more susceptible to repeat hits during and immediately after. Or just say on sector "Your It :P".

Edit: If I'm on count me in. It sounds like fun :)

are you guys serious? only in vo can people find way to carebearize everything in the middle of greyspace

Aye! How dare them try to come up with new events everyone can enjoy?! The nerve!

I'd suggest Latos M-7. Sedina H-15 is much too small and I don't think your counting the fact that you can still see the distance of other players at any given time during asteroid radar occlusion, thus giving a clue of general distance. M-7 should maximize the job of finding people.

Pherona P-16.Now,THAT's a roid field

JJDane: Pherona isn't grey, so not everyone will be able to get there. If someone knows of a better roid field _in_ grey, let me know and I'll consider it. I chose H-15 because (a) it's an otherwise empty sector (no bots, stations, wormholes), and (b) the roids have nice craters to hide in :)

ShankTank: I think there are plenty of roids in H-15 for 4-5 people to hide behind. As Fluffy pointed out, we already have problems with larger numbers.

Also, I was, in fact, taking into account the fact that you can still see distance. Sure, it makes finding people easier. But we won't know if it's _too_ easy until we try it, will we? Personally, I think M-7 would make finding people (and asteroids!) too hard, and it would exacerbate the boredom problem.

Well, I guess we don't have to worry about seeing distance anymore: "Occluded ships no longer show their distance in the sector list."

Well, hide and seek turned into something a bit different from what the rules suggested. "peytros" decided to be "it", and chased us all around latos for a bit, demanding payment for use of greyspace, which he claims to own. I still consider this to be a form of "hide and seek", however, so I am satisfied ;)

Participants:
Los Rimatsi
Mr. Chaos
Aron Jones
nibbler - supreme fuzzler

People who almost participated:
spidey
AikiDave
Nahin Lor
peytros
Valkyr Anason

Prize money donors:
Los Rimatsi
Aron Jones
AikiDave

I offered to refund Aron Jones, but he refused. AikiDave logged before the event started, so I couldn't refund him. I already refunded myself ;)

I don't think I want to run this event again, but I hope someone else will hold a hide and seek event in some form. You're welcome to use the rules I drew up, if you so desire.

Sorry you don't feel like trying again but understand. I will take making Nation War unplayable for peytros and maybe more to get him to lay off new player events.
Me if I'm on and peytros shows in a NW area I will not play in NW and instead attack peytros immediately before and durring the war and come back with new ships to attack peytros only. After I do this once to peytros or if he not online I will try to do this event my self. If I can get peytros to stay away. Will post here or online details.
