Shooting down noobs is hardly what causes them to leave. Excessive trolling, station camping, and general unnecessary rudeness however have caused a lot of people to either leave the game or unsubscribe.

People saying pirates killing newbs is making them leave pisses me off. Ya'll should have been here early alpha. Pirates killing me as a newb made me want to get good, and get even when I started. So I turned pirate in the end, and what? I've blown up so many newbs in VO I lost count (cos I keep re-spawning myself) but most of them do not quit due to that (some get pissed and log for a bit).

They quit because they do not belong here, they wanna do PVE, this game has no real PVE, only a limited sub-set. They quit because the game is not what they are looking for. Do not tell me mining in VO is PVE, it is not. Nor is botting random hives, or writing penis in Deneb, PVE is making a difference to the playing environment, none of the current actions in VO really effect other folks (the new conquerable station is the closest to PVE so far).

Some of the best players in VO were here because they got shot as a newb. PVP is really the only endgame right now in VO and this is why players leave. None consentual PVP is a part of a LOT of online games, plus being creamed by me or one of my fellow grey(fuck you Impavid, you can call me a traitor all ye like) has to be more fun than dying to a tycorp or a collector!

Hell, they can't even tell the difference half the time. I had hailed, waited a moment for response, and then killed a certain noob in Latos H2 about 5 times in a row before he figured out I wasn't an NPC.

The devs spend a significant amount of time implementing newb training sectors and onerous turret walls around capitol systems. I wish people wouldn't pretend like these assets didn't exist..

P.S. They should totally nerf the turret systems in Deneb, Eo and GR so that opposing sides can run in and destroy enemy convoys only to bring it back and sell the spoils for massive profits and lower costs while driving costs up for the losers.

Yes, they should. NPC centaurs full of good weapons flying from Itan and Sol to the front lines would be juicy enough targets to encourage some real nationalist activity. Especially if they were combined with a CTC-like system where if a certain percentage of them are destroyed, the nation can not sell Gauss Mk III's or Neutron Mk III's in any of the systems between Itan and Deneb or Sol and GR. But hell, this belongs in suggestions, not roleplaying.
