I am beginning to tire of hosting Nation War, and will probably be stepping down after a couple more. It's been fun and all, but I'd like to have my Sunday afternoons back. Not needing to raise 10M credits every week would also be nice.

This will free me up to host other oddball events now and then.

Of course, this means somebody else will need to step up to host Nation War.

What if, instead of require a player host and someone providing the credits, it becomes an Official Weekly Event, automated?

Quite simple to implement, already discussed in many places... I only see advantages in "officializing" it....

including to not *require* a host, but allowing up to 4, one per team... major participation of newbies, possibility of one "base capship" per player, so on.

I know you don't seem to get this Alloh, but part of the charm of Nation War is that it is entirely player-run. It's something the players just do, on their own, because they enjoy it. Being entirely player-run also makes it a heck of a lot more flexible than an automated event could ever be.

I think it would be sad if it got replaced by an automated system. Like when a local mom-and-pop store gets gobbled up by some big faceless corporation.

plus the devs are less reliable for events than players, like super duper mega unreliable, remember the supposed multi week event relating to the space yard shit in edras last year...wtf happened to the other weeks

To be fair Spence, he's not asking for the devs to run it, but rather asking for it to be automated by the server, via a special mission, so that once it's set up the devs don't have to worry about it. To be even more specific, I think he actually just wants enhancements to the mission editor that would allow the PCC to create the automatic nation war mission themselves (and which could be used for other auto-events as well).

Just an FYI, this started about... five, six years ago? Still hasn't been automated, which is good. Automated events suck.

Get a new dedicated player host, it'll continue to be a fun event the community loves.

A thought: there doesn't have to just be one host. Several people could take turns hosting and funding it each week. That would put less of a burden on each of the people involved.

Or better, we learn to use computer to automate repetitive tasks, as hosting the same event every week...
