Run the Maze! Get the Chocolate! Find your way out! Don't get killed!
Prep:
All who are interested will meet in Sedina G-5, 10-15 min prior. The event will be organized into rounds; in each round there will be one Maze Runner, and the rest of the participants will be Hunters.
The Hunters may use any ship type; Mines and Torpedoes are disallowed.
The Maze Runner must use a ship from the EC-series or Centurion-series, and may equip weaponry (Mines and Torpedoes disallowed).
Play:
Before the start of the first round, participants will send the Host a private message guessing a number between 1 and 100. The participant who guesses closest to a randomly generated number (between 1 and 100) will be the Runner. The rest of the participants are Hunters. The Host hides 3 Sedina Chocolates inside the Maze, and gives the countdown when ready. The Runner gets a 60 second head start from the time he or she enters the Maze, with the objective to collect all 3 Chocolates and find his or her way to the exit without getting killed. After 60 seconds, the Hunters enter the maze after the Runner and try to kill the Runner before s/he gets the chocolates and finds the exit. The Runner must find the maze's exit; they may not leave through the entrance. The Runner is allowed to shoot back.
The prize is 2 million credits per round. If the Runner succeeds s/he wins the 2 million credit prize for that round. If the Hunters succeed they split the 2 million credit prize among them. The Hunter that makes the kill is the Runner for the next round. If the Runner dies, s/he gets to hide the chocolates for the next round.
There will be 3 rounds in this event.
Rules:
-You must be on time to participate
-Mines and Torpedoes are not allowed
-The Runner must use an EC-series or Centurion-series ship; Hunters may use any ship
-Hunters must wait 60 seconds after the round begins before entering the maze through the entrance (no going in the exit)
-Hunters are allowed to re-enter the maze if they are killed
-Hunters are not allowed to pick up the chocolates
-Hunters may not camp the chocolate or the exit; they must go after the Runner
-All action takes place inside the maze (no attacking the Runner from outside the tube)
This is a guide-sponsored event; interference will not be tolerated

Also, congrats on guide-dom.

Sigh, such a sanctimonious twit you are. I guess what guides are empowered to do has changed since the time of Obsidian's mining events; it used to be the case you guys couldn't suspend normal play rules in an event sector.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Obsidian's mining events were based around players interfering with the miners; i.e. some players were mining, others were defending, others were searching for / attacking the miners. That is much different from an event that takes place in a specific sector that could be totally disrupted by, say, a player warping in and nuking everyone in the tubes...
It's only one sector out of the entire universe; I don't think it will interfere with others' need to play normally.

+1 to "nuking everyone in the tubes"
Har Har.

You're wrong. At first, Obs was trying to conduct noob-friendly mining events. We kept raiding them, blowing up her miners and stealing the ore from her haulers. She evolved the event to cope, seeing as how we were doing nothing that violated the game's rules and she could therefore not use guide powers to protect the events.
She began by hiring guards (hi LeberMac!), which we also blew up...but at least it diverted our attention from the miners some. But not enough, so she began offering pirates a way to participate in the event for rewards, so long as we didn't do stuff like station-killing haulers full of ore (or PKing her). Some of us played along, some of us didn't.
At no point in time was she such a sanctimonious piece of trash as to think she had the authority to block off even a single regular sector from normal VO play rules. I'll see about scrounging up some Avalons just for ye -- you see about getting a special, CTF-like sector for your event.

There are no safe zones in the universe, not even from magic.
Trying to impose magic results in drastic reduction of GS funding and thus the suspension of all magic forever.

This has been blown way out of proportion heh.
Gotta nip this sort of thing in the bud, Mecha.
I think you're just being difficult as usual.
Thank you for providing me with that opinion, I value it deeply.
I've seen the devs chase people around with a superbus for disrupting events before and I wouldn't call that abuse of power.
Something like /oper /kill would definitely be abuse though.

Guides aren't devs, and I think they're still subject to pretty harsh restrictions on their use of such toys in the game. That said, I'd consider that much more sporting than /oper /kill or teleoporting an "interloper" elsewhere.

lol :P doesn't make it any less valid.

Of course, the best solution is to simply not provoke trouble in the first place, rather than trying to boss around the most anti-authoritarian segment of the game, in their own back yard. You may as well ask people to be disruptive. Even I'm having to resist the urge to bomb it, after reading that. And up until that last line I'd had no such intentions.
Not cool.

is very glad I only resubbed for 30 days, you peeps STILL act like little 12 yr olds that cant get your way.
I am NOT speaking about Phaserlight btw, so figure it out yourself who i am talking about, so [expletive deleted, -Phaser]

We'll miss you so, ret. Last I checked, one of the only reasons many of us have been willing to support this game for going on a decade is the degree of freedom afforded to play however one wishes within its rules.
If I want to show up and demand payment or I'll start bombing, players gathered in a sector have several options available to them: blow me away until I quit bothering them, relocate and hope I don't find them, or pay me off. What they cannot do, as far as anyone's aware, is whine to a guide to use guide powers against legal behavior. I now intend to test my understanding on the 27th.

I'm not trying to boss anyone around, and I certainly don't want to use "magic", as CrazySpence puts it. Reading back over my initial post, I can easily see how that last line came across as authoritarian; that was not my intention. I've actually been wanting to run this event for a long time, six months or more. I guess I am painfully aware of how easily something like this could fall apart, and that came out the wrong way. Believe me, all I wanted to do was to provide a certain amount of entertainment to people who were just coming to check out the game. As Mecha said, I think things got blown out of proportion.
So, apologies for giving off the impression that "I'm holding the stick so..." That is not at all my attitude, and I think people who know me in-game can attest as much. In fact, just so that there is no confusion, I resigned my post from the Viper guild when I found I was a guide. I'm not here to police the community (and neither are the Vipers, for that matter). I'm not on a different level from anyone else. If we could, I would still like to hold the event... normal rules. Anyone is welcome to participate, and I hope that they would choose to do so in a positive manner. Of course, I cannot control anyone's behavior, so if someone is really determined to ruin the event there isn't a lot I can do to stop it.
It is funny to see that those players who took most offense to it are those I am used to crossing blaster fire with. That's natural, I guess. I can reiterate that I am no-one's opponent, which must be difficult to accept because there are those present who have only known me as such. I can put forward that time will show how my disposition has changed: not as one in a position of authority, or one standing from the vantage of right vs. wrong, but simply as an advocate of the game.
If a simple event is going to cause this much heated debate, I honestly would rather not hold it. I am sorely tempted to go back and delete the offending line, at the risk of throwing this thread into even further turmoil. However, I recognize that cannot be my attitude, and that I am responsible for things I say. Therefore, let it be known I am planning to go ahead with the event, come what may. I have no intention of abusing my powers, or setting any type of magical barriers to protect my design.
