How the hell you play with no background I just don't get it

Try it sometime; the background artwork isn't currently "real" in the sense of being made up of actual, 3D rendered objects that can be interacted with. Hence, with the background off, all objects (except for the sun, moons and planets) that can be interacted with are emphasized. After playing like this for a week, turning the background back on creates an explosion of color.

I also tried de-colorizing the chat for a while so that I was nation-blind across all galaxy-wide channels. This didn't grant any profound realizations but it made me aware of the subtle, mental compartmentalization that goes on when I see someone's name in red, or blue, or gold for the first time.

Just tried it... the background stars and nebula are tied together. I'd like to turn off only the nebula, not all the stars.
