You'll be fighting upstream against the prevailing attitude in VO that success is maximizing your K:D ratio, which Valks are very good at doing.

So, if you want your Serco minions to have fun and keep participating, they need to not feel like they have been cheated a kill when somebody runs. Maybe that means collectively leaving for your own repairs whenever even one of the enemy flees so they can't get anything over on you, or maybe it means just not looking at the K:D ratio anymore and gloating every time an enemy runs away. I'd go for the latter, personally."
Couldn't agree more. I have often said if my target runs, I win. My own K:D ratio has gotta be hugely skewed anyway from me explod-o-porting about the 'verse...

Well, the K:D I was talking about was the session-specific one in the sector-list chunk of the PDA, under the PVP tab. That one only counts PVP kills and deaths. I don't pay any attention at all to the character-window one.
I think you guys underestimate the "noobs". Ive seen many posts where you say noobs are not aware of this, not aware of that.Theyre not aware of all the subtle things in the game. You are wrong.Im here for little over a month, and for the first week i did not even log in before i read the whole wiki 10 times over and over.I did not log in until I have familiarised myself with all the weapons, all the ships, and havent made the possibly best builds out there in my mind.. I did not log in until I didnt read the majority of all the threads relevant to me, and until Ive watched all the videos and read a lot of reviews. Now perhaps some of you may say I take a game too seriously (which I dont, i just wanna save time), but god damn your point is wrong.
I choose the Serco because I never choose the easy way out, that being the Itani, I enjoy the challenge.Better playerbase, better tools to work with on the smurf team. So get of TRS's back with comments like "and of course noobs are aware of all the subtle high end game mechanics haha" because I made my well weighed choices well before I made my first character.
Problem is in what kind of people are on what kind of side. See the thing is, you only see TRS on Serco side here vs everyone else not on Serco side. Ever wonder why that is?Not many Serco bother to whine, like itani do, and every day itanis call Serco the whiners while the forums are plagued by 99% itani players who whine about any change proposed on the forums, and ANY change is against the itani because its so damn easy to be one.

I think you may be the exception that proves the rule, Shatter.
Regardless of nation, I see MANY noobs (not newbs) who ask some of the most basic questions I can imagine (how do I get a bigger ship/take missions/dock/fart/etc).

I agree with Faille. You are not remotely a typical newb. I've been here for over four years and have interacted wit a lot of newbs in that time. The typical newb knows vaguely that Serco have heavy ships and Itani have light ships, and maybe that the Serco seem like the bad guys. There are some newbs who actually read the backstory (like I did) or go even further (like you did), but they are only exceptions. There are also newbs who don't read anything at all, and simply click whatever they have to click until they're inside the game. Those are also exceptions.
Thank you, by the way, for being one of the awesome exceptions instead of the opposite.
Oh, and you're engaging in hyperbole when you say that TRS is the only one on his side, even discounting Espionage. We just don't necessarily agree that those factors significantly impact newbies' initial selection. They certainly do impact people's long-term choices.
I would be interested to see if the devs have any graphs on new player nation choices from before and after they randomized the order the nations are presented in, as well as before and after the logos were added.

I wouldnt count that kind of noobs, because those never stay for longer than an hour. This is not a friendly game to those that don't read and skip the tutorial. If a player asks how to dock I never help him because I know its a waste of time, where if I see a newb asking valid questions I go out of my way to see to it that he finds all the answers and has some fun to up the chances of him/her staying. So the kind of newb who goes through tutorials properly and reads everything hes given, like the links to wiki and forums that I message to him, is the kind of newb who is likely to stay, to matter, and to quickly get the grip of the game ballance of Serco vs Itani, while the other kind of noob cant be counted because they dont stay. Of course I dont have a graph for this, but this is what I believe to be true.
