Being a pirate is about choosing the right tool for the job. Pirates don't *need* anything, nor do nationalists. The greyhound is a fine ship, but it is not the solution to every job.

Some pirates like to hit all ships equally, and in those scenarios a ship that can both dogfight and intercept is preferable, even if it is not infini-turbo. I like the idea of pirate specific variants, but they should be a product of the new pirate faction/station rather than Corvus as Inc has repeatedly said that Corvus is not a pirate faction.

As suggested, I have made a suggestion for the new pirate-class ships.

My point is, I should be allowed to make my own decisions about what ships I use, where I go, and how I play the game, and a single narrow interpretation of what it means to be a pirate (or any other RP for that matter) shouldn't be enforced by game mechanics. Let players decide what they want to do.

You have yet to explain how that's what's being suggested. A new alignment, with new options for ships/equipment/weapons exclusive to it, is being proposed. Nobody will make you join it - if you think you're a pirate now, you'll be free to keep on doing what you're doing and call it piracy.

Also, you are not a pirate budgiewings (aka, hawkfeather), PVP -/= piracy. Nothing you do is really piracy.

You may gank players with yer mates, that is not piracy. You may fart in yer moms mouth, it may be funny, but it isn't piracy.

Shooting the shit out of people like TGFT, INV, EMS, and other "neutral" guilds and stealing their capship parts is piracy. Heck, just shooting the hell out of everyone cos you can - could be piracy too. But sitting still in B-8 and attacking people who are doing the above is more like an act of anti-piracy if anything. I'll have you know, I'm in game. Not as yodaofborg, true, but in game none the less. Today alone I killed a FAMY pilot a few times, a few VOID pilots, and a few TRI. (oh, and an EMS or two)

None of them were hailed, because I'm after the cargoes, or weapon drops, or something! Asking for credits is the easy way out.

Killing without hail is not griefing. Griefing is very specifically defined as harassing a single player until they get so frustrated they stop playing.

I disagree Savet: griefing is harassing players to the extent that they consider stopping playing. That said, griefing in VO has also come to define the RP of people who kill without hail and for no apparent reason. I agree there is a technical difference, but functionally in game it "feels" the same to the victim. Perhaps if people are bent on this technicality they can propose and encourage new terminology so that only TRUE and PURE griefers are so named.

Well, none of them kills were at stations, and all were in grey space. A few of them fought back (and a few did a bloody good job too!) The EMS kills were a bit lame, because they flew up to me not expecting hostility, but meh. That is their bad, not mine.

A greifer is someone who tries to make the game as unpleasant as possible for an indidual or group of individuals. Some notable griefers are Bojan, yodaofborg, #DIE, THC.(SKVs endless campaign against TGFT, causing most to quit VO is an example of griefing) A pirate hails for money or cargo. If Payment is not met they shoot. Sometimes nations or rival pirate crews may declare war. (Like VOID and ONE(Serco), SKV(Itani), and FAMY(rival crew). Here griefing doesn't apply. It's war. When you kill just to cause personal lulz at others rage it is griefing.

Hailing before engaging is, IMO, a courtesy traders must earn - on rare occasion by their mere membership in a "good" guild, more often because individually we've been able to do reasonable business before. And as a certain EMS pilot has recently learned, it can work the other way, too...I've always gotten on well with trading EMS and offer them a hail, but if you tell me to pound sand while carrying valuable loot, don't expect any future courtesy from me regardless of what tag you're wearing.

Hailing alerts a target to your presence and intentions, and the sooner they start running the better their chances. Over the past several years, TGFT, VPR, and others have pushed hard for the "better to lose your ship and cargo, than ever pay a pirate" philosophy, and many angry (and dead) noobs follow it reflexively. So be it, but in general it's better to silently attack and loot, than to waste time asking for credits. If you want the option of paying, you'd be wise to heave to and ASK ME how much it'll cost you to live. If you were carrying something about which you really cared (Xirite alloy 10WHs from yellow space, the poor bastard who lost a master computing system, etc.), it's on you to beg me to collect it and sell it back to you.

Conversely, when I go out of my way to RP the pirate and politely ask a trader in a Heavy Miner II who I can SEE is carrying FCP through Odia for a token tribute of 100k...and am told to fuck off...all traders will suffer how that interaction colors my future choices re: be a fun pirate vs. kill anyone I see and steal their stuff because fuck them I can. And obviously I'm going to kill him, take his FCP, and refuse to sell it back to him when he cries...because he had his chance and made his choice. Fuck him, and fuck hailing as a requirement. You want to live? You hail me :P

I am in complete agreement with Lecter. Early in my FAMY career, I would always hail first and offer the option to pay. I did earn some money this way. However, people also tricked me by logging out before I had a chance to shoot or stalling for reinforcements to arrive.

I got bored with that, so I've since transitioned into something of a compliance specialist. If I see someone without a warranty, I come swooping in and kill as quickly and cleanly as possible. WHY DID YOU NOT HAIL FIRST??? I get asked a lot. I tell 'em that if they want to buy a warranty, it's their responsibility to contact me or another warranty salesman ahead of time. It turned out this strategy works well, moneymaking-wise too.
