A Psycho's Path
Day 1
Upon receiving my basic training from the UIT training station in Dau, I made an effort to excel in license training efficiently and with purpose. My first goal is unlocking my nation-specific military-class fighter ship: the TPG Raptor UDV.
This ship requires the base skills of 9-9-6-1-0 to purchase as well as standings with the UIT > 800. Step by step, this is what I have done to pursue higher license levels from the start (immediately after all Training and Flight Test missions) at 0-0-0-0-0:
A) Courier Mission - Brought Trade license to 1, unlocking the Revenant. I found the Revenant to be a versatile and capable steed. With decent cargo space as well as formidable firepower capabilities.
B) Collecting Drone Parts - With the "Combat Practice" mission enabled, I used my Revenant to destroy bots while collecting their drops: Scrap Metal, Orun Processor Cores, DenTek Processor Cores, and Artemis Processor Cores. I collected several hundred Scrap Metal and anywhere from 20 - 70 of the various Processor Core types. These stockpiled Processor Cores and Scrap Metal were then used to repeat-complete the beginner-leve "Scrap Yard" and "Drone Parts Needed" missions. (NOTE: Using the revenant's large port to fire stingray missles as a finishing move on bots allows for specialized xp gain)
C) Interacting With Game Community - During my initial grinding I tested the waters of our infamous global chat. I met many helpful and hilarious players who advised me and taunted me, as any public forum will, and I decided to attempt to get involved with a guild. After a brief conversation with one "Gruzul Darkfire" of the mining guild [ROCK], I was invited into their guild.
Day 1 Synopsis:
- License levels increased to 3-3-2-1-0
- Joined [ROCK] mining guild

"Interacting With Game Community" -- big mistake

PS: I will race you
Day two:
So apparently, I got drunk last night and am now in a race to the Raptor UDV! I'm actually pretty excited, as this is my third shot at getting there before losing interest, and the friendly competition might give me the push I need to actually follow through.
Yesterday, from what I remember, I:
Rushed through the training and the flight test missions! Goddamn does that flight test mission take a long time. But, it does come with the nice bonus of 5000c, and a combat level.
The combat level is especially nice, since it means I could immediately buy a centurion and a plasma HX cannon, and get going quickly on the beginner combat practice mission.
I ran through the beginner combat practice in Dau F-5. It's a reasonably densely packed sector, with only dentek collectors. I would have liked a slightly more compact mining area for the collectors, but it wasn't a big enough deal for me to try out Dau G-5 next door.
The beginner combat practice mission has a combat xp bonus that builds up as you kill more and more sets of five bot. For dentek collectors, the bonus caps out at +210xp. For oruns, it's less, I think +180xp, so I stuck with the denteks and made sure to go back and repair when my hull dipped below ~40%. Dying resets the bonus, and it takes something like five sets of five bots to build it back up.
After beginner combat practice ended at combat level 3, my plan was to buy a tpg raptor and head off to itani space, but I seem to have made a small miscalculation: the tpg raptor costs 10k, which blows my budget, so it looks like for next time, I have to figure out a way to make a quick buck, so I can have my raptor. I need it. For reasons that will become clear when I have it.
Ended up at 3/3/2/0/0
Actual day two progress:
A quick escort mission between dau and arta caelestis netted me around 70k, which is plenty enough to buy a raptor and head off into serco space! I had planned to go to itani space first, but once I was a couple of hops from serco space, I completely forgot why.
The reason for going to one of the other nations' space is pretty straightforward, and is also the number two reason why UIT IS A TERRIBLE NATION CHOICE FOR NEW PLAYERS:
UIT has no dynamic hive within its borders. That means that, in order to find a hive skirmish mission, I must travel to either gray space, and mess around in odia and sedina, or to one of the other nation's spaces. The grey space hive tends to be pummeled into oblivion, so I prefer to do the nation space hives.
Once I got into serco space, I spent a while looking for suitable hive skirmish missions, and ended up doing two in Dantia.
Hive skirmish missions give +200xp for any kill in the sector your mission is associated with. I tend to target collectors almost exclusively. The bots chasing you are only a minor threat, and if you turbo between different sides of the sector from time to time, they will take forever to catch up.
Here is the trick: hive skirmish missions in ion storm sectors give, as the mission prompt says, quadruple rewards. That means I can net +800 combat xp per collector kill, plus quadruple rewards at the end of the mission.
This is also why I wanted the TPG Raptor, since its built-in storm radar extender takes you from 500m radar visibilty to 1500m radar visibility.
All in all, after dying once, completing a "common" hive skirm and a "small" hive skirm (with a total of 15 collector kills) I am now at 5/3/2/0/0.
The pitfalls of this strategy are that I will have to grind out the weapon xp elsewhere at some point, and that I am now at +63 serco standing and -63 itani standing. To be able to buy the UDV, I will need to watch that itani standing, since I need to have standing above dislike for both serco and itani.

hehe, contact me for a free newbkit :) each new char counts as newb and each char can get max 1.
2 noob kits please...
Thanks for the offer Xeha, I'll be sure to hit you up if I ever see you!
Today was a pretty lazy day. I have a cold. And some booze.
I did all of the small ion storm hive skirmish missions I could find in serco space, but most of them were close enough to completion that I didn't get to shoot anything. I also did a critical hive skirmish mission, but was sorely disappointed.
Had I been serco, I would have been able to dock with the trident and kill hive bots for easy xp without any risk to self. Unfortunately, my standing with serco was not high enough to dock with the trident, because I am UIT aka the worst nation for newbs, which meant that I had to compete with a million vultures for the collector kills. It sucked. This is the nice thing about the small skirmishes: there aren't enough teammates to steal all of your kills.
My itani standing has dropped to -136, so I'm off to itani space for a little "neutrality."
Edit:
So, itani space was a little more generous in terms of hive skirmish missions. Probably because it is so big and boring. I did a bunch of the ion storm missions, but am not sure I got all the ones I could have. My new faction standings are +42 itani and -43 serco, so I seems to have swung the pendulum a bit the other way. I'm now at 8/3/2/0/0, so I still have a chance to even things out. And even that isn't really necessary, so long as I keep both serco and itani above -200.
