Hmm. I find that unfair. So how do you "properly" make a song save to use? :P

I'm sure the artist who's music you were trying to use without paying the proper licensing fees finds it quite fair.

You need to properly license the music for public use. What I suggest doing is contacting your musician friends and ask if you can use their music in your videos. I have a friend who owns a small music label, and he doesn't really care when people use his music on youtube because he can just monetize the video. He ends up getting paid for every view no matter where the music is used on youtube.

Larger labels care a lot more. You're probably not going to be to afford the license fees to use music that owned by a major label. You may want to look at licensing royalty free music that fits what you are displaying.

If you think your work qualifies, you may want to check out Moby's mobygratis. Or even better, start composing your own music in a free program such as LMMS.

There are also places where you can find music released under permissive licenses. For example, http://freemusicarchive.org/

I've used LMMS in the past, and it's quite... well, crappy. I know, it's free. But there's lots of others that are better. For a long time I've used this free DAW (Digital audio workstation) for a number of years, called Soundation. It's in browser, and uses flash. If you don't like flash though, there's the chrome version. Disclaimer; you can't add additional VST's (plugins) to it, so its raw only. But, they have their own plugins, and when you get to learn how to use them, well lemme say... you can make some pretty sick stuff. Note, its free. Just see for yourself at soundation.com.

I personally use Renoise(and a multitude of tools including ZynAddSubFX), but LMMS is pretty powerful for the price. *shrug*

But since i mentioned renoise, i'll mention OpenMPT. Which is what I'd be using if i wasn't using renoise.

I thought Goliath was really quite good. But throughout, I really couldn't help but think that I probably wouldn't be enjoying the show if it wasn't for BillyBob. He really holds the show together.
