As a long time member and occasional councilor of [VOID], i fully concur with the OP. Role play is dead in this game, and we in VOID helped destroy it. All we wanted was an arena combat style game. When the inc didn't give it to us, we decided to kill off what remained of RP in this game. The result is an arena style combat game. For example, we run nation wars. And gray team, even though there is no gray nation, always wins. We run the Universe Tournaments. In fact we run all the tournaments in this game. Since we chased off everyone who cares about about RP in the game, we now dictate what RP is. We control 100. We control B8. We control the stations. In six months time we managed to control every aspect of this game. We win VO. If you want RP, go elsewhere.

The roles in the game have languished in development purgatory. Its not your fault VOID, its Inc's.

As I recall VOID has been claiming they "own" Grey since someone made the decision to revive it for reasons I will never understand. Seeing as all those claims have been empty and untrue from the minute VOID started limping back to the spotlight of the Universe, I'm positive nothing has changed now. I suppose I will confirm that belief on Christmas.

The only way maintaining control at this level is possible is if you're there in VO 24/7. What about sleep, work, or time with your IRL family/friends? Guess that says a lot about you and the kind of sad lifestyle that you lead IRL. I don't envy any of you at all.

uhm... is this a trolling thread by VOID or by SKV? whoever it is i have to agree that the situation at hand is weird. i do remember some SKV saying they would "fight and destroy VOID until they disbanded". and VOID is pretty active now and instead SKV are posting suggestions to remove multinational guilds so they can get rid of VOID and their arch enemy TGFT?
not a smart move from a RP perspective if I may say. but i may get too confused between all the alts and fake VOID and real VOID and fake SKV and real SKV etc. etc.

kenzie: i think the whole "we claim grey" thing is RP and i think its rather funny. and you cannot really say they failed. its not really possible to own anything in VO as nothing has a long term impact yet. and i am sure that blaqk knows this behind all his yarrring and yohohoing. what you gotta give VOID is that they're super active and commited. like them or not. they play and i suppose that's good?

joylessjoker: is "you have no lives" towards the enemy you cannot beat your new technique of warfare?? i think its more sad to be on a forum all day, insulting people in a game you dont even play anymore. thats something to be not envious of...

vo is dead. Thats why I quit. Maybe I'll see of anything has changed or come back to see of we actually get the goliath, and its not just on the 'to do list' like that Type P and Type S trident, a list that has exsisted for 6 years

they did just add a fix so you don't go bumpity bump when undocking it; also, I don't see VO as "dead"; I see plenty of activity whenever I log in (regardless of activity on 100).

VOID is active, and are plenty fun in a fight; while I may not 100% agree with them or their players, I more or less encourage that they continue to play, as I would anyone else.

'I haven't really interacted with VOID since I've been back. Or anyone else for that matter. But from what I understand, they are putting butts in seats, tucking elbows and making some noise. So concrats to vOID for their victory. Real or imagined, I haven't been involved enough to know at this point, I do know you guys (and I assume gals) have a pretty strong presence.

"The roles in the game have languished in development purgatory. Its not your fault VOID, its Inc's."

I agree with you Ore. But not for the reason you give. Where Incarnate is at fault is in permitting toxic discourse both in game and on these hallowed forums for years. I am thrilled that he is taking a firm stand now, though I imagine its unpleasant for him, Phaser and Whistler at times. VO will get better. If I had to guess, I would say that there are more active guilds and more active players now than at any other time I have been active. I could be wrong about that since I tend to shut 100 off and am primarily working up a couple of characters while only playing a couple of hours a week.

Balance of the VO universe is funny and ever-changing. Currently in gray space there is VOID on one side and 'The SKV coalition', EDIT/DIE/SWA/FAMY/CLM/FIP, on the other.

The nationalists have mostly gone away, having more fun playing their pirate alts I guess, but I don't know that for a fact.

Bojan was instrumental in creating this current state of balance, and now seeing what we all see, made his recent 'suggestions' post. To help nationalism recover he could come back to the game, put nationalism ahead of his other goals, and the balance would shift again, to something different, even if we don't know what that is yet.

The roles are pretty simple really. Red versus blue, pirate versus trader. Those roles don't matter a hill of beans though. Bojan's idea about having only one colour per guild isn't as crazy as it sounds. There are too many hurdles for Guild to get past however. If the colours don't mean anything to anyone anymore then they should be removed. Its already a free-for-all with alts. There is little meaning to the nations anymore.

' There is little meaning to the nations anymore.'

I would say that it's worse than what used to be normal. Nationalism quite often is / was one sided, even when both sides are active. Occasionally there is a decent interest on each side to make things interesting. To be honest, I gave up on nationalism years ago and just keep a character for the occasional foray into the Deneb missions.

The incentives that exist to promote nationalism just aren't that great. The focus of the game development that is happening seems to be centered on Grey which is more conducive to criminal behavior and trident building than nationalism in my opinion.

I think the criminal role should be the hardest to achieve successfully in the game. But alas, nationalism is not alone. RP for trade has been dead a long time. The best you get after building a character is player to player with a very crappy exchange format. Mining is probably ok if that is someone's 'thing', but it could probably be improved.

A bit of scarcity would go a long way to reviving these areas of game play.

@Harpo

No Harpo.
SKV has dominated the game for 2 years in a row while we were active.

We gave free access to conquerable stations to everyone and kept a sort of peace by fending off serco militants and TGFT cheat squad.
TGFT Machiavellian politics resulted in cheating defrauders of VOID becoming their puppets and joining in the conflict.

Maybe in some other game it would not have impacted nations conflict but, as VO is a small community and we despise cheaters and defrauders, the course of our actions that followed was easy to anticipate.
We destroyed them both in the process but at a cost - being very active for such long time took its toll, we got bored, lost interest in playing and took a hiatus from VO.

VOID used our absence to consolidate and with endless boasting on 100 and killing a lot of defenseless newbies they came back into the spotlight.

What is really amazing is how the majority of VO community reacts in situations like this.
Instead of creating an opposition to the known cheaters/defrauders they all rally up to kiss their feet and join them. It is a bit disgusting and tells volumes about what kind of people actually play VO - spineless cowards.

To help nationalism recover he could come back to the game, put nationalism ahead of his other goals, and the balance would shift again, to something different, even if we don't know what that is yet.

Recovering 'nationalism' (I hate that word, it's ugly) requires devs to invest their time in changing some of the game mechanics to make this part of the game appealing to the general populace once again.

My return would not change a thing since my primary goal will be to make cheaters/defrauders miserable again.
Besides, I am just 1 man and SKV is just a tiny group of friends.
Frankly, we are disgusted at the idea of forcing the majority of spineless cowards to leave the sinking ship yet again and change sides for the zillionth time. This leads nowhere.

Mistena's move is a disappointment but... everyone is free to make his own choices in game as in life - and live with them.

Good luck in your future VO endeavors Mistena.
