SDF CO nearing retirement.

Unfortunately the SDF and SAW haven't done much recently in terms of helping the nation out. I was hoping to see more cooperation out of them with the recent wars against the Itani regime, but I guess I was expecting too much. For what it's worth, that was one of the reasons I joined the Serco Dominion.

Going back four or five days ago, a single Itani pilot with a bounty of 6000 made his way into s2 all alone, captured the flag, and walked off with it as if nothing happened. By the time I made it to s12 from across the universe, he was well into the middle of s5 with two escorts. I repeatedly asked for help but got none. I believe [SAW] Pi was in s9 at the time, at the very least.

Anyway, I hop into a Prometheus and fly into s8 where I finally encounter the capturer. I engaged, only to be double-teamed by two Gauss toting Itani goons. Invisiblish One came to the scene and attempted to help, but died as well. I frantically bought another Prometheus and headed into s8, but it was too late. Why nobody responded to this was beyond me, especially since he had a bounty of 6000 and went into s2 all alone.

So there you have it. With all the bickering about who is going to be the leader or whatever, I think the new focus should be more towards actually helping the nation. It doesn't matter whether you're in a guild or not. As far as I'm concerned we're all on the same team. Just wise up and help out once in a while, m'kay?

-The days of "teams" are fast coming to an end. These are nations now and with that distinction comes a variety of various interests, goals, and personalities. You yearn for a past that will soon fade into history.

Magus and Arolte: Sadly, Magus is correct, national allegiance is going to die soon, perhaps later tonight...

But, while I cannot comment on SAW activities or policy, the SDF states clearly that any Serco Craft asking for aide or reporting a Cap attempt receives help (unless the pilot has acted in an unhonorable manor, eg: Calling SDF because he;s losing a duel, that makes us look bad and we dont like that. IN that case, the pilot is suspended from recievign SDF aide fore himself for an amount of time)

Sadly, due to our decreased forces currently active (some pilots have totally dissappeared, I doubt they will return before RELEASE) Spellcast and I seem to be the only active members of the SDF that are directly visible.

Currently, the SDF is acting underground until Guild Support is implemented, the SDF is UNABLE to perform its duties as we wish to perform them to benefit the nation. Thus, the SDF is currently operating on a volunteer basis. As of now, the only pilots I can guarantee the SDF has fully are myself and Spellcast.

After Guild Support comes online, we'll recruit some guys to come back and fight. We will also be implementing several systems to keep Dirty Pilots out. I hope to see the support of the factionalized Serco Dominion...perhaps we can all work together to fight a common enemy...

Until that day, the SDF will remain as is. At that day, the SDF will ask it's pilots whether they wish to remain with us as SDF or retire to the civilian world again.

I eagerly await...

As a quick addition to what Black1 posted, i'd like to add that the SDF is not tasked to engage in outright warfare, we are an anti-pirate organization. We defend serco traders from pirates and protect the flag. The serco nation has (had) a military arm to engage in warfare. Many of our problems in the past have been due to pilots and members of the SDF attempting to cross over the line from pirate hunter to nationalistic warrior, harming our credibility as a defense group.
The tasks of a modern military fleet often include, neccesarily, denying an enemy the use of profitable trade routes. That task is one which the SDF should not be involved in, as it brings a certain reputation with it that is undesirable in what is essentially a (mostly) peaceful response group.
Once the universe has stabalized in such a manner that we can enforce SDF policies that are written but currently unusable due to circumstances beyond our control, (no way to ensure that only authorized pilots fly the SDF tag) The SDF will be actively recruiting and trading again.

Okay, Spell brought up a very good point, I want to make clear once and for all exactly what the SDF's stance is regarding military responce and use of force.

1) The SDF's primary mission is to defend the Serconian Nation's Flag

2) The Second objective is to defend Serco Warrior's craft during small or large scale engagements. This is not an inivatation to engage constantly. If a pilot needs CSAR (Combat Search And Rescue) then the SDF will provide it.

If once free of the battle, the pilot merely uses us to free him so he can return and reengage moments later, the SDF NCOIC (Non-Commisioned Officer In Command) can elect whether or not to return and attempt to bail the pilot out again.

3) The SDF protects any and all traders from acts of piracy. The SDF will respond to, and sometimes escort, traders in or going into hostile territory.

The SDF standard charge for escort is 5000c for upto a 6 stop route.

The SDF escort(s) can elect to carry cargo in addition to defending the trader but the mission is always placed first. Any SDF escort that fails to fly a properly equipped ship flying into known hostile sectors will be investigated and if the SDF Commanders decide action is needed, punished.

4) The SDF will augment Serco Military, Serco Navy, and Serco Militia attacks if it is beleived the force requires reinforcement or if the SDF pilot online is alone (thus making him acting commander) or if the SDF pilot recieves permission from the NCOIC.

SDF pilots are not permitted to stay out for an indefinite period of combat, they must return to patrol sectors (5 and 13) at least once every 30-45 minutes. The SDF craft must also disengage from any combat maneuvers to respond to a Cap In Progress against Serco.

This is the SDF Standing Operating Procedure (SDF SOP). Various rules and regulations may be implemented as the galactic situation evolves.

We hope that with the invention of the Faction System, we will be able to start gearing back up and hopefully be at full strength by release...thus launching at least one powerful defense fleet into the Civilian Version.

PS: Thank you Durgia for your support. We look forward to being able to better serve this galaxy in the very near future.

NEW SDF CHAIN OF COMMAND:

CO (Intel)- [SDF] Black 1

CO (Operations)- [SDF] Spellcast
XO (Operations)- sector0
Command Sergeant Major (Ops)- [SDF] Black 2
Flight Officer- [SDF] Ravenous9ak

Due to my inability to operate the SDF effectively as the commander of daily operations, I have turned the majority of control over to Spellcast who serves as the CO of OPs while I serve as the CO of Intel.

This places Spellcast at the head of the spear with myself acting as a sideline commander who only takes charge when Spellcast is offline or clearly in over his head (which I doubt the latter will happen).

The Chain Of Command will start with Spellcast while I maintain myself in my own COC from now on.

sector0's main character (A.K.A as far as I know) is gold now.
Just making sure you know...

I am aware of it and I figured that the question would be raised of how an NT pilot can command a Serconian Force well,

I'm not entirely sure

sector0 has proven himself to be an invaluable pilot to the SDF in the past and to Serco as a whole. I welcome his support in the effort to keep the SDF alive and help it bring relative peace to the trade lanes.

Spellcast and I currently need to discuss the new Chain Of Command before any final placements are made. The only two positions currently set in stone are Spellcast's and mine.
May 21, 2004 Spellcast link
I'll be redesigning the chain of command, Rules of Engagement, & SDF operations policies and procedures eventually. Guildsupport doesnt seem to be on the radar anytime "soon" so many of the changes i had planned need to be rethought at the moment. For now, The only pilots authorized to take action on behalf of the SDF as a whole are myself and Black1(and sometimes i worry about black1 too :)). All other pilots, including sector0, black2 and ravenous are operating on their own initiative. This does not mean that they are operating without orders or going rogue, simply that until reputation is more stable I am leaving the decision of engagement in their hands. On the same note, if you experience a problem with any SDF pilot, or anyone claiming to be an SDF pilot, please contact me as soon as possible, either on the message boards or in game. I will look into any allegations of abuse/misconduct.

A guy goes cyclic ONCE in a vulture and poof, there goes his creidbility! The beatings will continue until moral improves! :P

Okay, so for now, here's the new Chain Of Command (until further revision)

CO (Intelligence): [SDF] Black 1
CO (Operations): [SDF] Spellcast

SDF Pilot Wing: AKA, Black 2, Ravenous9ak, all other SDF pilots

I beleive the basic ideas we are trying to bring to the SDF is a more centralized COC and ROE since under my command I was more lax about issuing orders and the like.

I hope to instill a more expierence/leadership based COC and an improved SOP and ROE so that we are better able to perform our duties and also ward against rogue pilots.

I am issueing a final, and a DIRECT order to SDF pilots. Engage hostile forces as needed, avoid heavy combat losses. Obey an orders Spellcast gives even if they override my own.

Okay, it's official, I'm tenuring my resignation to the SDF Central Command as of today.

I am no longer able to fly well, and with release comming and a lack of money due to my unemployment, I will probably not see the SDF past release.

I want to tell you that I am proud of what we've accomplished and what we've held together. The SDF is truely a force to be reckoned with and I hope that with my leaving, that you will all show Spellcast the same brotherhood as you showed me.

I will always hold the memories of flying with you close to my heart and will never forget the good times we had. I wish you all well in the comming weeks and months.

Hail the Lady Serco!

Since I have officially retired (or will so in the next 7 days) I wanted to tell you that I will upkeep the SDF website on Geocities if you wish and if you will send in information.

I want to specifically wish you luck, and want to tell you that I can think of no one that could better lead the SDF, take them into release, and also hold it together with my passing on.

Out of all the pilots ingame, I feel that I owe you the most thanks because you never waivered in your help to me. The SDF would have long ago collapsed and died if not for your help.

Yes, AKA is still officially an SDF as per my standing orders. He will remain officially as a C-Int Operative under a Black Ops order by me, to exterminate Serco SDF pilots acting erratically.

AKA is acting under official capacity so that the SDF can Check & Balance itself rather than relying on outside pilots and groups to clean up our dirty laundry...
