Griefing and Pirating - Thin line between.

part of the current problem with pk's is that we only have a small universe to play in. The final game is supposed to have a much larger area.

I believe that the devs have stated that the universe will be made up of many "solar systems" each solar system made up of a varying number of sectors. What we have now is more like a single solar system.

In the final product, I would expect each nation to have their own solar system, (maybe 2 or 3) with a central area made up of many unaligned systems between them. Thus new players will have an area they can learn the game in that is relatively safe.

Arolte, sorry for the late response, was with friend all day.

A pirate's main goal is to pillage what it can, get into the ship, kill if needed, take stuff, then leave. Killing will only make their record worse, therefore upping the bounty on their head. A big bounty will mean the pirate is a nice target for Bounty Hunters, more bounty will mean more bounty hunters, the higher the bounty the more skilled ones will try to get it also.
A pirate that is dead is not a good pirate. When role-playing, your ship should be very precious to you, as precious as your life, or your best friend's life. You don't want to lose it and you will not be happy if you do. Even though you can get it back, don't take it for granted.

Thank you all very much. I have enjoyed reading the responses to my query, and it has given me much to ponder.

From what I have seen, most people consider pirating to be griefing, with little exception. A smaller, but significant percentage, beleive that pirating is acceptable, if actually roleplayed. IE, someone shoots at you, damages you, then stops and says ''drop it or die'... Whatever.

Personally, I have to put my vote in with the 2nd half. Just shooting someone to bits and not even giving a comment otherwise is pure greifing and quite malicious... I'm not saying I'm against malicious roleplaying.. Heck, a good villain is worth their weight in gold....

The problem is, I rarely see villains roleplayed //well//.. No offense to those out there that see themselves in this light, but sitting and insulting someone after you shot them down, or they ask 'Hey, what was that?!', calling them a 'n00b' or 'newb' or whatnot... This is merely a way to run people off, and make yourself feel superior. If your ego needs this kind of boost, you truely need to rethink your goals here.

Otherwise, have fun all. Once more, I enjoyed this very much.
