Greetings and Salutations!

Dunno if anyone here remembers me, I had a go at Vendetta a long time ago (during test) and just got back into it recently - post new universe.

Resurrected my old pilot - now flat broke and apparently unskilled, heh. But anyway, say hello ingame if you meet me - I don't bite. In fact I'm a downright pacifist (that is, I suck :P)

Oh and is there an updated manual somewhere? The couldn't find one - and am abit confused about the new skill system, certification training and whatnot. Good oportunity for /mentors here! If that's implemented yet.

Anyway - fly carefully, and see you!

Welcome back player of the "pacifistic" kind, may our sheer numbers overcome tyranny of the evil skilled ones. :P

The manual isn't updated yet ... If your looking for information (insurance rates) the forum and newsposts are probably the best help, or ask somebody ingame.

Futt, unless that is your nick you better publish it so we might have a chance to remember you.

Futt...

Okay, well, other than checking the News Boards about the new universe and perhaps looking farther down on them for info about the faction/licesnse system this is what I can tell you.

1) The faction system has eleminated CTF from the game. It default sets you to a good standing with your nation and the NT (or if you are NT then you are in good standing with both).

2) The license system was introduced and limits the amount of craft and weapons sold to a player by forcing the player to earn a license. There are four types: Combat/Light Weapons/Heavy Weapons/Trade.

To be a good pilot, you have to earn the maximum license (12) in all categories. That opens the National Ships upto you.

To increase level rapidly, you must complete missions. To get a mission, go under the "mission" tab in teh station. Look at the missions and accept the one you wish.

Cargo: Run cargo to, or retireive cargo and return to, gain exp for your Trade

Combat Training: Fight bots to gain exp for your C/LW/HW

License Test: When you have gained enough exp to qualigy for another license, accept the mission (it will cancel any otehrs), pay a small fee (it increases with license lvl though) and you will be awarded the license and weapons, ships, and upgrades may become available. To see them, you must /updatestation

Aah, thank you Pyro - pity I didn't read your post before going off on a shopping spree to see if I could find something better than that damned bus - only to find one measly "Wraith" bomber. Oh well. Got one trade level at least, and sortof getting the hang of things.

Will go through the news archives as well then.

Oh and I'm an N.T. apparently - dunno if that's per default or because I was a Gold before the beta. So if you feel like hunting low level drones in neutral space just lemme know. It's boring without company =)

Safe journeys!

Aha! So you were the bus I kept ramming my ship into while you were figuring out the nav system early this morning.

=b

Welcome back.

Gold = N.T.
N.T. = Gold
N.T. = Neutral Territories
Neutral Territories = N.T.
Neutral Territories = Gold
Gold = Neutral Territories

I think thats all the combinations :P. I guess the ability to choose the color of your ship confused you. (which was introduced in 3.5(now)).

just a little hint Pyroman_Ace, and any one else:

/updatestation does'nt work any more. it does'nt work for me... says there is no such command

My apologies...the Nations has finally had their names recognized rather than their national colors.

Red- Serco Dominion (Serco, Serconians)
Gold- Neutral Territories (NT, NTs)
Blue- Itani Empire (Itani, Itanis)

Serco and Itani are at war, while the NT are tolerated by the warring states because the NT maintain a neutrality overall, the NT are regarded as traders that serve only their nation or guild and fight rarely alongside another nation's forces unless it is threatened by the odd nation out (as in the Serco/NT vs Itani alliance)

The Serco Dominion hates the Itani and view them as weak and inept fighters. The Serconians prefer brute force to tactics in major battles, although some Serconians are famous tacticians. Developed the Prometheus to aid in Fire Strikes and Long Range Firesupport.

The Itani Empire hates the Serco and regards them as bloodthirsty savages that should be exterminated. Primarily scientists, they prefer tactical and technological supperiority over firepower. Developed Valkyrie to combat Serconian fighters and bombers, highly maneuverable.

The Serconians have long hailed the Valkyrie as a keystone in battlefleets and have used them to aid their Prometheus's in combat on numerous occasions to combat opposing fighters and for close range missile and rocketry support.

Pyro,

dont start about the war... there is no war, there are only skirmishes mostly on players own voluntarity. So STOP trying to wiggle people into playing it like you want. unless the devs come forward with a warstory, then I keep my mind that the serco as a collective are just a warhungry race, not meaning that they do war. Same as the enutrals are neutral, but will offer their services to ht emost paying side... And as the itanis are warcriminals with regret of their previous actions and therefore are less reclusive of war, and more inclined to diplomacy, but they will war if it happens.

But it is only a backgroundstory, and nothing points in the direction that a war is raging, except for some people that are bored and just use the backgroundstory as an excuse to go out and "roleplay" alias justify killing people relentlessly...

But this is only a general thing and is far from true for every single individuals.

cheers

PS: nobody of the itanis has seen even the valk pop up while proms are abundant. And yes we do have people that are level 12 combat ...

Aha, thanks for the update guys! Really think I am figuring the new stuff out now. Oh and /updatestation does indeed work, tried it earlier today as I gained a Small Weapons level (woot! more things that go "bang"!).

I've noticed that credits are not as hard to come by (or as necessary, for that matter) as it was before. You sortof always get a lot more money than you need for your next upgrades in the process of obtaining the certification for it. Free repairs help too :D

Then again I don't die much - guessing you PvP'ers have a slightly higher budget than I have...

Just fyi, it's Itani Nation, not Itani Empire. :D

Welcome back Futt.

my apologies Rogue

Renegade, there IS a war. The war has been raging since the Serco/NT vs Itani alliance and that IS how each race views the other. I ran an espionage character in the Itani Nation while I was still a SDF pilot. I spoke to Itani pilots about the Serco and the like, that was the feeling that I got.

Nevertheless, this roughtly follows the galactic history I've read. It is widely agreed that the Serco and the Itani are at war and that is the story ingame right now. All Serconians start -600 (approx) with the Itani Nation. We're warring nations and it's upto the individual to accept that and fight for their nation or not. Some are some aren't.

Okay, I will relent though that not everyone holds the same views on the war. However the views of the nations on each other are virtually the same as posted and that is really what matters.

Sercos! Not Serconians. Arrrgh!!!

/me pulls his hair out

And yeah, war is cool. Die, Itani!
Jun 27, 2004 Renegade ++RIP++ link
the status is at around -500. It is close to hate but not yet. At any time a war can emerge, but in general there isnt a war.

If you wanna compare , then compare with the cold war... Just a massive buildup of both troops, but no full out war yet ...

We only have strained diplomatics, that make peace harder, but it is still possible.

The inside actions dont have anything to do with the real serco - itani story, it are just the actions of bored individuals that use the excuse of a possible war to go on a random killingspree. Or that just want to have fun, what in their eyes can only be in a war.

Unless the devs come and state in their story that we are at war then and only then I will give you your way.

But as I read it we have a history of a war, but we are cooled down. you however are willing to wage a war therefore warhungry. we however remember the previous wars and the massacres that we committed, and we are reluctant to do so again ,just in the name of having a conscience and not willing history to repeat itself.

But this is something that we will see once the real story starts, what I expect to be in the open beta, a couple weeks before the official release... And history just shapes our stance or possible actions, not all our actions, and sure as hell wont fixate it.

But all roleplaying effort untill this day is just a pure waste of time since there is nothing to hold your role on to. You cant be a serco fighter, sinc ethere is nothing to fight for. you cant be a captain of the serco military since that doesnt exist. You cant be a pirate since there isnt a pirate faction. You cant be a knight since there is no order of the holy grail. You cant be a diplomat since there is no government. The only thing that is present are people trying to do what they like in a void. But this is not roleplaying, it is just passing the time since they are bored. Roleplaying will need a story in which you can immerse yourselve, not a couple of things that happened in history. Roleplaying is shaping yourselve based on the things that happen now, and that are brought onto you by a story. Otherwise you wouldnt even need a DM in an RPG.

I could just say I slay a dragon, and my friend sees a goblin in stea dof the dragon, and another friend of mine sees a goodhearted elf that gets slain... The story will be the start of the real roleplaying.

the rest is just a placeholder to have fun, and mostly on the expense of the fun of somebody else.

cheers

Hm interesting views Renegade. I'm a bit of a roleplayer myself, but never roleplayed in a setting such as this. I think it might be hard to build a viable RP community on a platform such as Vendetta, but I for one am willing to try.

At the moment nothing is set in stone and very little background information exists. Now, this stops noone from "roleplaying" a rogue pirate, trader or what have you, but when it comes to the larger pictures there's little oportunity for RP as you'd be making most of it up yourself (i.e. as you say, DM is on vacation).

What I would like to know is how flexible Guild Software would be with regards to player input and interaction - how much they are willing to let us players play a part in the scenarios that unfold. My experience from other MMOGs is that this will not happen. Sure we get to fight off hordes of NPC forces and all that, but involving players or player guilds in any large extent is generally frowned upon. Don't know if they're afraid they'll come off as "favoring" certain guilds or anything by letting them play a role in the plot, or what it is - but I hope Guild Software will be more open to it.

How about, for instance, giving an RP guild "command" of an outpost? Or let a trader guild setup their own "trading post" in deep space somewhere? The possibilities are many and I think it will definitely draw a lot of players, particularly RPers. It'll take some extra effort on Guild Software's side, but I think it will pay off. People (well, me at least) soon grow tired of the mindless killing-for-xp, running NPC missions and (god forbid) mining for resources, and I think most players would love a chance to play a role in the grand scheme of things - feel "special" in some way or another.

My thoughts anyway - I'd love to get some more viewpoints on this, not to mention the official stance on the matter?

You cant currently give a guild any landing permission or anything at stations. However many guilds exist...I'll list the promenent ones below.

SDF (Serco Defense Force)- Pyroman_Ace, Founder, the SDF protects the Serco borders from invasion and also exerts defense over Serconian Traders. At peak, 25 members, current active members, 5

INM (Itani Nation Military)- the INM protects the Itani Nation's borders. Unknown numbers, a majority of Itani however.

DSG (Defense Ship Guild)- Largely defunct multinational guild that protected traders if paid.

SM (Space Monkeys)- 01, founder, Defunct splinter from the SDF. Were highly volatile. Put down through SDF/DSG Alliance and large scale intervention.

These guilds are large enough to still warrent reference ingame and on the boards, so now you'll be prepared to see them.

I'd say there's a war alright - albeit a flame war :P Take it in-game eh? Put your plasma cannon where your mouth is!
