I was a "Pirate-For-A-Day." No one actually gave me anything... they just laughed and boosted away...

Yeah well, you have to blow up a LOT of people who run before anyone actually stops and pays. Actually, you make much more money pirating CTC transports.

Since when has Icarus NOT been a pirate? I remember running like hell every time I saw him back in Beta, haven't seen him recently though...

73h,

he has never been a real pirate, just a pk-er.

He enjoyed being the nasty bigassed mofo but in real life was a jolly old chap.

Renegade. You're not a critic, you're a name caller, See? I can make semantic arguments too!

shape,

he never called himself a pirate nor did he kill anybody for the cargo. He just killed anybody that crossed his way. So not a pirate in my eyes, or is there something I missed ?
Jan 27, 2005 Shapenaji link
Well, since, according to you, all of us "pirates" are just pk'ers.
I figured that the word had lost its ability to be specific.

simple definition of a pirate:

somebody who tries to confescate cargo, meaning that if he can get the cargo without any kill he do so, but if the only chance is a kill then he'll kill

simple definition of a pk-er:

somebody who tries to get a kill. If he happens to stumble upon a ship hauling cargo, he'll consider that as a bonus, but not the means to an end.

During my playtime practically all pirates were pk-ers, and just used the word pirating as an excuse so to say to kill whoever they wanted anywhere.

That's interesting Renegade. The Pocket Oxford has a few definitions only the first 2 of which apply in this case.
a) seafaring robber attacking ships
b) ship used by pirates.

Piracy is defined as:
a) the Practice of attacking and robbing of ships at sea.
b) similar practice, esp hijacking.

I think your "simple definition of a pirate" may be your personal opinion. I can see no issue with people attacking other players under the Oxford definition of piracy

rob [Show phonetics]
verb [T] -bb-
To take money or property illegally from a place, organization or person, often using violence.

This implies that violence is not necessary or not, Not to mention that violence does not necessarily imply killing but can be damaging, disabling...?

But yes, that was my own own definition as I see pirating as I believed shape asked for my definition, especially since if you kill people you can't rob them again. And then your hurting your own pocket...

Lonestar. UIT. I am a business person. A privateer. A simple, honest trader just trying to make ends meet. Come on, can't I get you into a couple cu of this premium xith ore? Tell you what I'll do, I'll give you 10% off, a man's gotta live you know, and that's cutting me own throat!
Jan 28, 2005 Shapenaji link
Renegade, I didn't ask you for your definition. I TOLD YOU that was your definition. And as far as the definition of piracy "not including killing" I would say that killing lies within the whole "THREAT OF VIOLENCE" sphere of influence.

Not to mention, that if you look at Martin's facts there. The dictionary does include the word "ATTACKING" next to the word robbing. Does ATTACKING involve violence bucko?

Please stop acting like a bloody moron. It's getting rather frustrating.

You would do well to take your own advise. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is a bit bothered by your incessant flaming. At least, I hope I'm not.
Jan 28, 2005 Shapenaji link
genka, as far as that particular post, that's come from a frustrated long history of much more nicely worded posts to Renegade.

I have not flamed that much. And from what I know, you have flamed me and others a good deal more. So please keep the hypocritical accusations of hypocrisy out of this.
