The End of the Elite Guild

Dec 23, 2004 myko link
At around 22:30GMT the elite guild disbanded. Following the resignation of Council Member Kixkizzle there remained too few councillors to enable the guild to fulfil article 114A of the Guild Incorporation Act AD4428 that stipulates there must be at least 5 councillors for a guild to operate.

The elite guild had a short but fruitful life, becoming the second largest guild in the universe, incorporating pilots from all races (especially pilots just out of the various nations academies). It was not an aggressive guild, it merely protected and supported its members in the best ways possible.

There were several reasons for its decline that all guilds should be wary of. Firstly, the Guild Incorporation Act (article 32J-76a) does not allow the replacement of deceased councillors (an oversight harshly criticised by Commander Ratonu). Secondly, Ratonu himself became increasingly isolationist, leaving day to day affairs to Hank Starblazer who tried to fulfil Ratonu's jobs without the tools he needed (such as being able to appoint lieutenants).

To all ex-elite guild members I wish to say it was a pleasure flying, fighting and working with you, and wish you all the best in your future conquests.

It's a shame y'all have to do this, you were such a great guild from what I had seen.

"You *can* just re-make the guild"

OOC: There were a couple of contributing factors to the guild's collapse, there are plans (by some of the more regular members) to create another guild, but it is highly unlikely it will be called elite.

I thought that an IC post was appropriate in the RP forums explaining why a guild with 83 members disappears, and to emphasise that some of the guild functions really need to be looked at in the next patch. A guild shouldn't have to collapse to be able to bring in more councillors f.ex.

adding council is doable, if somewhat hard.

The person who you want to give a council slot to (the votee) must recieve 6 "yes" votes from existing council members (the voters). The limits for this is:
1. the votee must recieve all 6 votes in one session. This means that everytime the votee logs off, all votes are reset.

In the SAF we had the same problem, we were down to 6 council. Our solution was to get ahold of the person we wanted to add, and make them idle on the game all day. :) then as council members logged on they were ordered to vote for that person.

Once you have a 7th council member it gets easier, because you dont have to get EVERY council member online. And with the new MotD the guild commander can add a reminder to council members to vote that they see when they log on and every time they do a guild list.

Long story short: Elite guild is back.

I would say it was rather ok to have the guild disbanded from its original componence, since we had no means to just eliminate dead members, dead councils and so on. Also, it made it easier for some members to pursue their own ideals and their destiny.
You've all seen my complaints (bug reports) to the GIA regarding the Guild Regulations, and so far just small parts of those complaints were addressed.

However, we rebuilt the Elite guild taking those problems into consideration, while trying to avoid some downsides of the GIA regulations and also being more selective regarding our members/councilors/lietenants/commander positions.

I myself will try to disurve and retain a combined role of councilor/lieuetenant and keep things rolling under the auspices of a new commander, that i hope will be worthy of his position. Hank was proposed for that position but he missed the appointment for the guild revival today, so RootBaba is the interim commander.

All former Elite guilders are welcome with some exceptions that are in effect due to the new RP strategy that the resurected Elite (now Phoenix) now has. I urge those members to contact me directly in order to clarify any issues they might have. Please contact me ingame for more details, as some information is classified for the moment.

We are now rather selective on new members and we do screen each applicant carefully. We are no longer accepting non-permanent players but we do accept new troopers if they meet our admission standard and qualify for membership. We are no longer a HELPER guild although we still provide HELP for all of our fellow guilders. The new focus is integrated into our name: "Elite Phoenix RPGuild"

Also, we do accept former members of other guilds as long as they proove a goodwill departure or a justified refugee reason and status against their former guild. Our former alliances are still in-place and i personally wish to thank our friends representing the other guilds that were very kind in renewing their pledge for good collaboration with the resurected Elite Guild.

The Elite Guild website is available at the same address from the "Player Guild" webpage on the official VO website but no public information has been released yet, so please do register ONLY if you have guild membership status.

This info was posted in reply to an older thread as well as new thread in order to satisfy and address some previous discussions and concerns. Please address questions ingame or on the dedicated post (not this one!)
