why?

Jan 17, 2005 Bobsin link
Last week I was laughed at for having over 400 deaths. This week I was proclaimed the "Sedina B-8 Resident"... both honors I have accepted proudly because it is what I am. in my youth I was invited to the first Elite Guild, then SAF, then The Corsairs, and reciently the Black Lance. I am not a great pvp'er. My kills are far lower then Shape's... my most feared and respected friend. I can't break away from my simple ineffective flight tatics, I cannot kill shape, and I cannot hit a back rolling itani to save my life... but I continue to fight.

Why? Because it is my way of life. I choose to fly out there every night and attempt to take out an enemy. Not for glory. Not for cargo. For the thrill! Watching your ship explode is my desire. Flaming debris being snuffed out by the void of space is one of the most beautiful things I've seen and I want to share the experience with you.

I may win. I may loose. We may both loose. In any case I will climb back into my cockpit and continue to pursue you until we settle matters once and for all! Not for glory. For experience. for personal honor. and for the thrill! That is what I fight for.

so now I ask you, why do you climb into your cockpit?

Sounds to me like you and I are brothers Bobsin. I too am a very average PVPer but I hope to get better one day.

Deaths as a stat is ridiculous. You could easily have 0 deaths if you're very careful, swarm your opponents and run as soon as you start taking fire but does that make you better? I don't think so. I personally use /explode occasionally, suck at PvP and always try to bot for a little bit longer than I should. Result: Martin.mac.au has died 252 times.

Anyway I climb into my cockpit to run around the galaxy and cause mischief and if someone wants to pay me money to ease my itchy trigger finger that's fine by me :D

I also like the exploring trying new ships, weapons, etc.

I am a Serco at heart (though I'm Itani for now) and i always will be. Like any true Serco I live for the kill. There is nothing like soaking you mouse in sweat and then seeing you enemy explode. I tell you, you have lived till you seen this.

I climb into my cockpit, cuz I want to have fun with a game I pay money for. So far I have never not had fun with VO. :D

I love games. Especially ones that I can feel myself get better at.

Go and Chess have always been major addictions for this reason.

:) I'm here to fight and die. Cuz every time I die, I know I learned something.

When I climb into my cockpit, I think about what I'm gonna try new.
How am I gonna beat 3 crack pilots when its just me?
What's an interesting strategy to try against amarus in a rocketduel.

And there's nothing, NOTHING, as satisfying as a string of hits, when you KNOW you calculated exactly where they're goin. (N3's I miss you, you gave me the pleasure of a 5 hit combo droppin them to nothin in seconds)

I've been in the PvP arena for quite a few years now, through several mmog's. I joined this game for the pvp. During the beta I saw great potential for the sport, probably the best yet.

Now if "real life" would just stop rearing it's ugly head and give me a bit more time.......

You SHOULD be proud of your deaths. It means you are brave enough to try combat when you know you may lose, and that you don't have to have the stats to make yourself feel worthy. I've learned a lot playing against the better players. Getting blown up is not a problem so long as you did a little better than last time, or at least know where you went wrong.

I remember when I first started playing and a human player would show up in the sector (there were only 3 sectors then) at the rate of every 2 hours. God my heart would start pounding! Sometimes it was Incarnate, who would gleefully hunt me around the asteroids or lay mine traps for me to stumble into. Man did I die!

:) well, I AM proud of my deaths... (227 I think, with 530 pk's)

but I'm proud to have a low number because I KNOW I stuck around for fights that I could have died in. And I KNOW that I died when I was supposed to. So for me, its a badge of honor showing that I learned from every death I got, and got 2-3 kills in response

I have about 100 kills and 50 deaths. I'm into the game for the thrill. There's nothing more beautiful and thrilling as a head to head battle with a worthy player-killer. I recall many battles with some of the veterans of VO where I finish and my heart is pounding so hard I can hear it.

I don't die often, because the only times I usually die is when someone suprises me with a new tactic or weapon. typically after getting smashed, I don't let it happen again. I enjoy learning from my mistakes, but I hate making mistakes. I'm a perfectionist in skill, and anything less than elite is dissapointing. call it a flaw or a gift, I see it as both.

i climb into my ship because in space there is still room for principles. on the ground you are encumbered with regulations and officials; if you see someone in distress it can be more dangerous to help than to ignore, what with the danger of lawsuits or personal harm.

but in space i have no dependents, i can risk my life and property for the greater good without having to fear the consequences. my eventual goal is to be able to be a force for good.

My name is nuthou5e and I am a sub-par pvp'er.

I run from most pirates and spam Prometheuseseses.

But I am working on it, I promise.

I am a businessman, reviled by some for that, but so be it...using an escape pod is merely an inconvenience and a cost of doing business.
I am an explorer at heart, feeling very much at home amongst the endless vistas of space.
I am a rank and file member of the dWo (4Life!), soon to be an official guild corporation, both loyal to and supportive of my brethren.
I believe that, as our society is much like the Wild West of old Earth, there are practical reasons to 'Support Your Local Gunfighter', and I am particulary generous to the socially clever.
I believe that those who destoy another's ship for no particular reason are somewhat akin to randomly appearing ion storms, and if you are not willing to accept/deal with that (in a manner other than wailing at the stars), stay out of space.
I do not, as a matter of course, believe in being armed; it's a waste of mass better used to do REAL business.
I often shut off channel 100, as the griefers and whiners who waste a lot of bandwidth there detract from the enjoyment of my travels.
I am proud, in spite of the shivering revulsion of others, of being a Master Prospector.
I prefer the Centaur as the mainstay workhorse of my fleet. Good P/L ratio.
I proudly say I have never destroyed another pilot's ship in pursuit of my hard earned licenses (3/3/3/12/11). More accurately, I've never destroyed another pilot's ship...period.
I believe the consequences of participating in CtC are a harrassment worse than the consequences of NOT participating; I choose to avoid it like the plague.

And so, while lifting a tankard of Dau Senate Ale to ALL my fellow pilots (warriors, pirates, traders, and miners alike), I say "To The Stars!"

ah to die. i have never died, but i have ejected from my cockpit 9 times, and have never actively engaged in any Piloted combats other then training, for you see, i lack the skills to kill another sentient being, bots are one of the only things that i can kill, and even then i must go back for repairs or eject From my ship.

i fear also that the local traders are tired of seeing my Ors, denic or and apecian ore are fun to see, but only when it is rare, and over 200 CT is not rare anymore.

so i say, i would rather eject from my ship, and lose the battle then to die.

i live for life, and noting can take that away from me, no one will kill me and my eject button is closer then the switch to turn on the mining Beams. and this button, is hair triggered. my radar, is the latest in enemy contact, and the auto eject works before the generators overload causing the batteries to explode taking me into space.

Do i deem myself for a cowered to not face the trials of Sentient Battle? no, i am no coward, i am the bravest man of them all because i am the one to admit that i fight not for Country and for cargo, but for my life. one thing no pirate will take from me. one thing no trader has the money to buy from me, and one thing that no miner has a beam to extract from me. it is mine and mine alone.

Heh I have about 100 PvP deaths, and 13 kills. My computer, and connection is right on the line between playable and unplayable -- but having +400 ping is similarly a disadvantage for my attackers. And many days I have to trade or mine rather than PvP. However I have never run from a contest, and never plan too ;). Honourable or just masochistic, I can't really tell any more...

However I find it just as fun to repeatedly attack 2-3 hostile players with different combinations of weapons/ships/strategies as I do to see somebody elses ship explode.

My point is that whoever gets sploded in a duel usually learns a hell of a lot more than the killer -- who obviously wasnt having the limits of their ability (or modem :\) tested. So anybody claiming a lack of skills get out there and die some!

(then again maybe thats just me trying to justify my incredibly unbalanced kills/deaths ratio, I promise ill start a new character if I ever get cable and a useable computer! :D)
