I'm just a little curious why a UIT "Border Guard" is patrolling space that is clearly outside of UIT borders.

They're like the Vipers... just worse.

I asked them the first time I heard of them. They replied that grey was in UIT influence but UIT had not the means to maintain official jurisdiction there. I find that sensible. UIT space is very loose and there are grey systems that are very UIT-ish, like Latos. In fact there are no UIT borders: UIT are often safer in Edras Crossroads than in many places in Azek or Verasi for example.

It's not like they have anywhere else to go anymore. :|
They came online earlier and SUCCESSFULLY defended the Zolor. Apparently it went all the way back to Dau after a few hours.

The UIT have as much influence over Gray space (and Sedina) as the Serco do, which is to say, practically none. They do have guarded stations in Latos and Edras (I think), where the Serco have no stations in Gray space, but that's the extent of it. Unaligned corporations are exactly that, unaligned. This does not mean by default that they are aligned to UIT, because then Gray space would in fact, be yellow. That's like the California Highway Patrol enforcing California Laws in Mexico. Not to say that Mexico is lawless, but just that the CHP has absolutely no jurisdiction there.

Which also brings up the point of why UIT Strike Forces are frequently seen in Serco space...

I see a few inaccuracies. Take a look at this:

TPG is clearly part of UIT. Orion is largely UIT too, although less integrated. Ukari, Latos and Edras have UIT or TPG presence.

And if you want to compare, US (like many countries) consider they have jurisdiction everywhere in the world, in Mexico or everywhere, at least when one of their citizen is victim of an attack. And if I got it right, the "border guardians" were supposed to be a reply to the attacks on gold merchants in Sedina.

Meanwhile, back in [IA] headquarters, LeberMac is using the "Deep Blue" Universal AC (Automatic Computer) to analyze the emergence of this mysterious "Border Patrol" force.

In the darkened computer controlroom, the blue glow of the terminal screen lights LeberMac's grimacing face. The gathered data of deep-space [IA] surveillance droids seem to indicate that several known [BLAK] pirates left the sector for parts unknown before the appearance of several UIT Border Patrol ships.

LeberMac leans back in his chair and ponders this new development. Could it be that several pirates are attempting to atone for their past sins? Or is there a deeper, more sinister plot involved? One with UIT expansionistic aims?

A buzzer alarm sounds and shocks LeberMac from his thoughts. "FRAK! - the Pan-Galactic Race! I'm LATE!"

Bolting from the chair, LeberMac jumps into his beloved Rune Valkyrie and leaves the mystery of the UIT Border Patrol to the deep mechanical hum of the computer control room...

Making more money then either one of us will ever see in our races. ;)

LeberMac counts his 25K from suggesting P.I.G.O.U.T. as the race name. Otherwise, there's no prize for second place, like in much of Vendetta.
