add ruins

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Specially not if it's in the Off-Topic forum!

Not off topic? And those other two poems that aren't even yours aren't Off-Topic material either, I bet...

thats not an argument kanaka.

Ah, but this most certainly *is* on topic! Our good friend ananzi is suggesting that the devs add ruins to the game - battlegrounds of wars long past, forgotton colonies abandoned by those who founded them - to add a bit of flavor, if you will.

((Hah!))

((Oh, and Celkan? Sense of humor, please.))

The subject hints at something that has been suggested numerous times, but would be on-topic. But the post itself (the copy&pasted poem) isn't. There's nothing of substance that's on-topic here. And anything with substance would probably be better added to one of the many existing threads rather than starting a new one.

How can you people expect ananzi to post anything constructive or reasonable?
Dec 22, 2005 Beolach link
It's always a shock when ananzi (or genka or who? me?) makes constructive & reasonable posts, but it does happen from time to time.

It is shocking that poetry gets kicked down to off-topicness when it is posted with an intent that is relevant to the VO community, while pseudo-poetic **** and fan-fic ******** proudly stay in the main sections of this forum...

FM should not automatically assume that communication must be mundane to be intelligible ;-)

Hey I wrote some of that "pseudo-poetic ****" and fan-fic "********". Don't presume that you're so much better than the rest of us, Sun. Your condescension and elitism are far more annoying to me than the worst of ananzi's posts.

The reason this is in off topic is because he is using a poem to make a suggestion.

NOT very useful. Nor is it possible to get exactly the meaning that he wants to put across to us.

Therefore, it would get shunted to the RP forum.

However, because it has no RP merit (namely, he didn't even write the damn thing), it continues on to this forum.

"There's nothing of substance that's on-topic here."

language is without substance; and yet it drives the wheels of time!

inspiration can count for more than explanation!

a spark is worth more than a fire.

a gleam is necessary before a baby comes.

All of which means nothing in a discussion forum! Write what you mean precisely, or get thee to Off-Topic!

Which is where we are now.

So, how about that Judge correctly denouncing ID as religious idiocy and barring it from US schools? I for one was miffed; I was hoping by the time my children had grown up you yankees would be a bunch of retrogade morons doing science from out of the Middle Ages, using prayer and incense to fix things instead of real tech, and looking for new discoveries in the Scriptures instead of the Lab. Then us, the rest of the world, would have someone we could all laugh at and treat with disdain; alas, it was not to be and the fall of the United States has been held at bay for a little while longer. Curse y'all, ya hear?

"The reason this is in off topic is because he is using a poem to make a suggestion." That is a pity indeed. Since when can people quote works of art to make a point? on the internet??

"NOT very useful. Nor is it possible to get exactly the meaning that he wants to put across to us." That's right. Poetry is not useful and cannot express any exact meaning.

"Write what you mean precisely, or get the to Off-Topic!" How true! Let it be a little more precise: don't ever write anything that may lead other people to wonder about what you really meant!

language is symbolic of meaning. poetry can explain things that a 500 page essay cannot. and a 500 page essay doesnt guarantee understanding on the part of the reader.
