Well I tried my best with a trackball today, boy that sucked, it worked out ok for Calder I guess . Anyways, I guess I wont be around for a while longer till my hand gets better or I find a miracle interface. Doc says it could be 6 months to a year... damn.

My guess is carpal tunnel syndrome... in any case, you have my sympathies, Hoax, get well soon!

Sort of a double whammy, I was recovering from carpal tunnel surgery (from being a web designer and playing too much VO I guess) but while I was still healing I did this move where I grabbed a toddler that was running towards a busy street. I tweaked the tendon in my thumb just wrong and now I have tendonitis(sp?) as well. It's a catch 22 where the tendon is inflamed so it rubs against my muscle and bone wrong which causes it to become more inflamed thus rubbing worse...

Bassically I can't move my right hand side to side bending at the wrist without extreme pain (thus no mouse), it's really amazing how much it can hurt. Add that to the after effects of the surgury and I'm a mess. I can't stand not using my right hand but I just keep reinjuring myself so I guess I need to just bite the bullet and rest it before I'm lame for life.

You should insist on seeing an Occupational Therapist who is a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) to help you rehab that hand. They can help you recover to your full potential and assist you in avoiding re-injury. They also might know of a more suitable interface for you. 3M used to make one that keeps the wrist in the neutral position, but I'm sure better devices have been made since then.

Don't worry about pissing off your doctor. You can always get a new doctor, but you are stuck with the same hand for life.
