Mar 03, 2006 GRAIG link
hey don't take me wrong I LOOOOOOVE Vendetta, but its the first ( and maybe the only one) game I've played since i switched to mac 2 years ago...

No. There are no other MMORPG's on the Macintosh. Nothing to see here, move along.

Kidding, of course. I think WoW runs on Mac and Neverwinter Nights. Oh and that goofy new Flash-based fantasy one, starts with a "D" I think, I forget the name.

EDIT: Thanks, toshiro, I had forgotten the name, possibly because it was incredibly stupid-sounding. Doofus --> Dofus?
Oh yeah and I hate Lineage. Nothing like wandering through the land, beset by thousands of offline "store mode" NPC's...

Do NOT play Dofus. It's okay if you play it for free (limited worlds), but paying for it would be... folly.

In addition to the games LeberMac mentioned:

- Minions of Mirth
- Lineage
- Key Nine Online (stay away from this one, I just added it for completeness' sake...)
- Everquest
- Diablo II (not technically an MMORPG, but hey...)

Perhaps the one that would suit you the most, if you like the free PvP of VO, is Shadowbane. It is hideously ugly compared to WoW, but the PvP aspect is... well, I can only describe it like this: it resembles VO. And is just as fun.

The character progression and development is a dream for any RPG gamer, and the guild and nation part of the game is something other MMORPGs only dream of (nation and guild wars, alliances, backstabbing, the ability to actually wipe other nations and guilds off the map by destroying their cities, guild creeds and rules, politics, conflicts of interests etc...).

And you can build cities. Hideous cities, but you CAN build cities. And siege them, and destroy them.

VO is the only reason I'm not playing Shadowbane today. Of course, Shadowbane is level- and class-based, and the fighting is round- and level-based, just like WoW and others, but if you can stand that (I can, although I prefer the non-existence of such concepts that VO offers), it is the fantasy MMORPG to bring all other MMORPGs to their knees. Until Darkfall is ported to mac, of course.

Gods, I miss it. I'm going to point my browser to http://chronicle.ubi.com/ and download it today. Perhaps I'l see you there... :-D

(But do not stay away from Dofus. Play the free parts, love it, and leave it once you've taken a few characters to level 40. But don't pay fer it. There, I'm in agreement with toshiro.)

Oh I forgot "A Tale in the Desert" Which is essentially an exercise in crafting things in ancient Egypt, but it's MMO and it's kind of RPG, but there's no PvP or fighting at ALL besides some game-like contests, really.

Of course, if that's your thing, knock yerself out.

Only thing I hate about ShadowBane is that once outside the newbie area, you can't do ANYTHING but die on your own. You have to join a Guild almost immediately, but since all Guilds have limits as to the race/class it admits, you have to look one for your character type, and once there you might not like your guildies.

I played Shadowbane till now, and i learned to hate it. The game is pretty nice (even though the grapics on my apple classic are better), but i didn't realy like the players. And for a newb in the lvls 22-40 it's inpossible to live without a guild. But if you like oben PvP and don't mind a dropping playerbase, try it. love it of hate it :)

You could also try Second Life: http://secondlife.com/
You can have a F2P or a P2P account, bout you'll have to give them your credit card information in either case.

There is also a game called World War II Online. Its publisher is also Strategy First, like Vendetta. http://www.wwiionline.com
Its an fps, tank sim, fighter sim, bomber sim, ship sim, and many players describe it as "the most difficult fps you will ever play."
