Hired? Guild can't even pay themselves, much less someone to moderate these boards...we need a trusted voluenteer to do this, I'd do it myself, but I doubt I could be completly objective to everyone. I'd nominate someone like Asp...

What puzzles me isn't the number of deleted threads, but the fact that time and again people's posts have been completely wiped out. It's wierd. I think the forums are haunted.

The Forum Moderator has really been acting up lately. He also deleted the WWII Online thread that was SUPPOSED to be in the off-topic forum, but for some reason was moved to the archives forum... and then deleted completely. Go figure. May I suggest the devs have a talk with this individual? Thanks.

Uh, actually, I think he's doing a pretty good job, and also pretty tolerant... If anything's to blame, it's probably the barebones forum system they gave him...

Two threads deleted in a week? That's a fault in the system? I don't buy it. Why now? Why weren't any of these problems present before? If there's a glitch, he should come out and say it. Because right now this strikes me as something odd.

I also noticed a lot of off-topic threads leaking into the general forum that go unnoticed for a long time. Or at least someone steps up and says it's off topic. If time is an issue, maybe someone with more time should be the moderator... or more moderators can be hired? Just a thought.

/me wonders what happened to his thread with Arolte and Urza about the USMC, guns, and all. :-D

/me glares at the FM, "I said move it, not delete it!"

Well, part of the problem is that my Forum Moderator account got the boot because I never used it to play the actual game (an amazingly stupid oversight on my part) so I've had to go "radio silent" for a few days if I wanted to protect myself from being hassled in-game. Yes I am the FM and always have been. The devs also do a little moderation from time to time. Some people have known for a long time and I truly appreciate their discretion.

I would be the trusted volunteer. Time is not an issue, although because I am on the West Coast (3 hours behind) an off-topic thread may get well underway before I see it.

The wiped-out post thing (where the poster's name is still there but there is no text) is something that the poster themselves have done using EDIT. I am unable to do that to other people's posts. The only effect I can have on individual posts is to delete them entirely with no trace left.

I deleted a few threads this week because they were not only off-topic but were becoming too mean-spirited to stay. This is not a forum to bash people or make political statements. There are other boards for that.

The ForumModerator commands ARE very rudimentary and it is often difficult make changes or undo mistakes. Sometimes subtlty is what is needed, but all I've been given is a bat. Still, better than nothing which is what we had before.

[this thread could be considered off-topic, but it seems like it should stay here for now]

I think Whistler is doing an awesome job. The life thread was on the brink of emerging into a bad flamewar(doesn't matter if it was going to be in Off-Topic or General)

I didn't realize that our discussion of USMC martial arts and guns got mean-spirited. Or maybe I hadn't looked at it since a flamer posted. :-\

Exactly. I don't want to delve into it at the risk of rekindling the flames, but it was taking a lot of maintenance for an off-topic post and I felt it was best deleted.

umm...where did my post go....

I knew it! They said Whistler quit, but I said no, no. Aha!

gahh... but it was a good thread about guns and stuff!!

i want it back.... ;)

actualy.. where was the mean spirted stuff? We were just poking him for questions and sharing knowledge of our own. i must have missed it all, or you deleted it all (before the thread trashing)...

I can't restore deleted posts, so ya can't have it!

I had to pull several posts after the one about sniping a hostile off a water tower, and they just kept coming after that.
There was no problem with the posts prior to that.

Darn. They were all while I was at school!

(Actually, good thing. My politics would have made me one of the offenders, probably)

Wow, no surprise there. I guessed right when I said earlier that Whistler was a forum moderator. Woohoo! Cookie for me.

While I saw that the WWII Online thread was turning into something hostile, I still believe SirCamp's post was fine. There's an off-topic forum for a reason, you know. If the forum moderator is too lazy or busy to maintain it, then either the off-topic forum should be taken down, or a new moderator should be hired who would take his duties seriously.

Maybe I didn't read the latter posts that sparked something bad in the USMC thread. But the real question is, why weren't the offensive posts singled out and deleted? Or at least leave it to the people to decide what's offensive and what's not. The moment someone objects to a post (or a volley of insults is visible), that specific offensive post and its preceding replies should be taken down.

There will always be a few instances where a particular post will be taken the wrong way and will be wrongly deleted by some moderator. I know because it has happened to me a few times already. Posts would just vanish for no reason. And I guess that's why I have some negative feelings towards whoever is in charge. In any case I think something like that should be avoided.

In regards to the USMC post SirCamps made, I personally would've liked to discuss the topic further because I share an interest in the military and guns. And I figured, well... maybe SirCamps and I could do a little bonding by adding a little sense of humor here and there. Oh well, so much for that.

/me hugs SirCamps

PS: There's nothing in the forum disclaimer about violence, if that was the issue. Either way, forum posters should give fair warning in the title about potentially violent topics. That way they wouldn't get deleted.

anyway.. from where we left off (me see if me can remember it..)

Camps and I were discussing the value of the MP-5 compared to an M4.

Yes, the MP-5 uses a 9mm parabellum. And you are correct, the MP-5s with itegrated silencers are supposed to be incredably quite. To the point where you can hear the firing pin. However, there is also a screw on silencer for MP-5s manufactured without built in silencers.

Arolte.. That sniper rifle you were talking about.. That would be the military .50 cal anti-personel/vehicle sniper rifle wouldn't it? I've been trying to get my dad to get us 1 for uh.... white tail hunting. yeah, that's it... white tail. No actual [pretend this is italiced]reason[/pretend this is italiced] to hunt squirrrel with it.

And pyro..

The MP-5 is a submachine gun used by the US military and police.
The M4A1 is a smaller version of the m-16 if i'm correct. It uses a smaller round as well. All the Iraq stuff you see where are troops are carrying what apper to be M-16s are probably M4s.
