Char names

Hate to break it to you, FM, but it's back.

A Serco player on right now has the name of "Rectal Drippings," which I don't want to call offensive but disgusting and crude. Whatever happened to decency?

I also had someone impersonate me last Wednesday. It seems there are still ways to impersonate someone via special characters and /me commands. Impersonation to me is far more offensive than someone named "Rectal Drippings." One specifically attacks your reputation, while the other is simply annoying, but easy to ignore.

what reputation?

I understand what you are saying Arolte, I've had a few impersonators too. I will try to get an "official" ruling regarding whether or not we are policing names. The responses so far have been a little vague.

Again, this is something stupid that I have to go and waste the devs' time with. There are many solutions to this kind of thing (closed testing, account verification, character/account name approval, etc.) but they all require human-hours: an expensive resource.

In the meantime, I will act if I see something totally offensive (as opposed to annoying or gross), as well as any impersonations of guides or devs.

I'd like to add that the Hitler dude or possibly kastin as he was going along with that crap made a "Verdandi Hitler" char. That was completely out of line.

Hmm, a take on this.

The devs/guides aren't really going to take action until something is completely out of line. It appears that borderline racist comments/chars, disgustingly crude ones, and impersonations are not "out of line," so I would suggest that we all agree to /ignore the offenders.

What constitutes offensive? The name "Hitler" is considered offensive? It may be to some, but he was and IS considered one of the most influencial people of all time and a good leader. BTW, there is more than 1 Hitler throughout history. This almost sounds as bad as Spike Lee sueing TNN for using the term Spike in their advertising. Everything you can come up with IS offensive in some way to someone in the world. Historical figures should not be considered offensive. However, anything deemed as inappropriate language for younger users, ie anything filtered, should be the only thing disallowed in the nameing of new characters (not including bad puncuation to steal another's name).

I have never heard of hitler being considered a good leader. Even ex-nazies think he was a horrible leader. By the end of the war he was complealty insain and listened to no one.

Actually, he was a great leader from a military standpoint (except for the two-front war thing... :P). The blitzkrieg was one of the greatest tactics of the time, and the V2 was used to great effect (it would have been even more effective if it had carried a biological warhead). Do I agree with anything he did? No. Do I admire him from a purely military standpoint? Yes. Oh yeah, and he was damned good at motivating people. But no, I can't say I don't find his (full) name offensive, if being used in something like what this guy was doing. I find the stuff about him (and Nazi Germany in general) the History Channel shows really interesting, though...

First, a bit of history:

Hitler was no Napoleon when it came to running a war. Like Pyro said, he invaded the Soviet Union when he desperately needed that power on the western front.

He let his top general become disillusioned with the cause and had him executed.

He refused to release the panzers in that crucial moment after the Allies broke through during Normandy.

While he skillfully gained power, he was no military leader--he should have sticked with politics and let his generals win the war.

Usafrunner, please read my first post, I was not talking about Hitler.

"Usafrunner, please read my first post, I was not talking about Hitler."

Yeah, but now we have a thread devoted to the tactics of World War II! :D

I should get my dad on here... He loves this sort of thing... :P
