It's a prank designed to deliver himself entertainment and ego-stroking from watching gullible people pour out compassion from their hearts for nothing. Also it's probably his way of exiting a game he's growing bored with because well, attention is like a drug. You get addicted to it.

I did ask that this drama not be rekindled. The devs are super busy and stopping their work to mute people on the forums is a waste of time.
