Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8ghz with 1mb cache, Zalman big cooler...dont know exactly what it is..but it's...big..
4 Geil 256mb DDR400 sticks (big-time overclocking DIMMs)
And a Abit motherboard that I dont have yet due to some guy being a weasel on some forums. Wew.t..

And how well does this computer function without that motherboard that the forum weasel hasn't shipped yet? Other than that, I hate you.

You got a Prescott? I think you should ditch that cooler and just get a copper tube filled with liquid nitrogen. :P

There's a RAM manufacturer called Geil too? That's awesome.

just wait, soon that huge cooler will break, and you'll have to call TRANE for a HVAC to continuously cool your cpu. other than that, not bad at all.

You have a better computer than I do (if incomplete). I am suffering from computer envy and I hate you.

I agree with Pyro. No comment.

I hope your heatsink gets applied incorrectly and melts the processer socket right off the motherboard.

Just kidding.

1 Question: Why A Prescott? And what Video card are you gonna stick in there?

(ok 2).

Good. See, I'm not the only one suffering from a server case of CPU envy.

Hehehe, CPU envy...

Mmmm... Athlon64 3000+...

Prescott's have, (or at least this one does) 1mb of full-speed l2 cache. It's basically a Xeon.

My video card is a ti4200 128mb agp8x, but it's only a temporary card, I'm getting a 9800 pro with a Zalman passive cooler on it, which I'll only have until I can afford a 6800 GT

/me rubs hands and waits for 9800 pro se to arrive on monday
Aug 14, 2004 AlienB link
pro se? not possible. SE's have a 128-bit memory interface and are not anywhere near as high-clocked as a Pro.
Aug 15, 2004 MonkRX link
Actually AlienB thats incorrect. There are quite a few versions of the 9800SE floating around. SE = Slow Edition for those who don't know :P.

One is with the 128Bit Memory Bus
One is with 4 of the 8 Pixel Pipelines disabled
One is with both comebined... thats the most common I find

The only good thing with the 9800SEs is that you can softmod the video card to re-enable the other 4 (disabled) pipelines and get a fully operational 9800 VPU (of couse not all of them can be softmodded successfully... they disabled the pipes for a reason :P) . Some are even lucky enough to get a 256bit mem bus. (of course, that bus doesn't come from softmodding ;P).

The Prescott isnt a Xeon (or at least not the Northwood based Xeons). Its a completely redesigned core based on the same NetBurst architecture featured on the Northwood and willimette. The 1MB L2 Cache on the Prescott does not make up for the lost preformance of its deep 30+ stage pipeline not found on the Northwood. By comparison, 20 stages on the Northwood, and 12 on the Athlon 64 and Pentium 3. Above all, its hot as heck. The Prescott Still smokes my Athlon XP nonetheless (although not enough to make me "want" a new comp) ...

But there are a "few" cases where the Prescott beats its Northwood counterpart. One of them is Doom III. Most of you know its pretty RAM starved and CPU hungry. The 1Meg L2 cache on the Prescott helps it out well.... but its preformance still looks pale when compared the the Athlon 64's with thier built in memory controllers.

Black Omega: you better have a pretty damn weak card right now if you getting a shit card like that. Ive heard rumors that it cannot even beat a NORMAL 9600. Im pretty confident that it definatly won't beat anything higher than a 9600 Pro.

Not always true, monk. ALL se's have a 128-bit memory interface, most do not have the extra pipes disabled, and most of the time you cant enable them.

lol u is thinking PC, /me has a G5 9800 pro se is best card available for the moment..... until i can get a 6800 ultra that is.......

Sapphire 9800SE. Its kinda based on the 9500/9700 PCB, some come with the "L" Shaped Memory (the way they are posistioned) which means the memory runs on a 256bit Bus. Otherwise they are only put on one side of the PCB, only utilizing a 128bit bus.

Read some of the reviews:

"Wooohooo softmod with ZERO artifacts!! I highly recommend trying this card. Mine came on a black 9700 style PCB with "L" shaped SAMSUNG memory (which means it is a good candidate for BIOS modding) I was hesitant to replace my GF4 Ti 4600 because I love N-View dual displays and was afraid of losing that. Hydravision works with the softmod, but is not as polished as N-View.

According to the driver author I now have the equivalent of a 9800PRO at a lower clock speed!

Bottom line, great softmoddable card with samsung "L shaped" memory the took my 3Dmark 2003 from 1530 with the GF4 Ti4600 to 4323 with this card softmodded with drivers at xxxxxxxxx
"

For 120 is not bad. There are some topics in other forums talking about this card, but people don't seem to like the "luck" you get with softmodding and the even lesser chance of getting a 9800SE with a 256bit mem bus.
