Forfeiting duels

Jul 03, 2005 Grzywacz link
Hi,

currently when you duel someone, destroy him and warp out of the sector before the message about duel's status appears, it's counted as a loss (duel forfeited). I "lost" two duels like that today. I know I could wait, but that's the last thing that comes to mind after a long and fierce fight. So... Could you please fix that, so that duel status is recorded when someone dies, and not after all the debris disappear?

Edit: 3 duels

You must stay IN the sector for a least 5 seconds, it was put there on purpose.

What for? It doesn't seem to make sense...

It's because of the way they implement duel draws. A1k0n said "There's a five-second window after one of you dies - if the other person dies within that window, it's a draw." So, the duel does not end until 5 seconds after one of the duelists dies, and if you jump out of the sector before the end of the duel it counts as a loss.

If you jump out during the 5 second window, then it should be made to count as a draw.

Meh. It probably wouldn't be much more difficult for the devs to do, but IMO it wouldn't be worth even the little bit more time it would take. I'm fine with it as it is now.

I think the assumption is that there's still the possibility of having missiles locked on to you even after the target has died, which sort of gives the loser of the duel a small chance at a draw if the winner isn't careful. Even if only for a second or two. And remember, splash damage is the other thing you have to avoid. So it seems fair to me.

Bah, so be it. I curse my fingers and pre-planned route. :(

Good explanation, Arolte.
