Serious Problem

Dec 03, 2005 LordofBlades link
Right, I was just flying along on my way to itani space, to increase my standing some right? And one second, I'm barely 200 meters out, going to jump to another sector, the next second I'm 22,000 meters out (and I can only tell this because it made me face the wormhole for some reason) and I couldn't control my ship. I pressed the jump button, and it took about 3 minutes to jump out. When I tryed to send a message on channel 100, it said "You must wait 1ea/20 seconds before sending this type of message" And when I finally did jump into another system, all my ship did was stick me in chase mode, and fly slightly to the left. No buttons I pressed effected its corse or speed or anything it did. And when I was finally blown up by a bot, my camera just spun around the spot where I died.

What's goin on?

So this is happening again (?) Something like this used to happen quite a bit. There
were a few explanations going around, the one heard the most was that it happened
sometimes if you hit a small object while traveling at a high rate of speed. You get
thrown way off course, spinning out of control, with all controls non-functional. The only way out of the situation was to log out. And when you log back on, you
will be in the same place you were. Way the heck out there. On one of the occasions that this happened to me, I was almost 1,000,000 meters away from the
nearest wormhole. A long flight back !!

you are luuucky. /old days

in the alpha, we had 18 main sectors (not counting the devs and the race tracks) and we didn't have none o' this "go out to 3000m and jump" stuffe-do! when we had this happen, we had to fly all the hell back1!!!!111111111

anyway, yeah it happens. (remember the fly-at-3000m+ bug?)

Goofy stuff like this has happened to me a couplea times.

I chalk it up to connection problems and log off. Hunh.

As far as I can tell, it's connection related. A sudden burst of latency or dropped packets causes the server and client to lose track of each other, and until the difference is made up you cannot control your ship. Log out and back in to fix it.

Yep, that's a connection problem. I see that regularly. If it happens, log off as fast as possible. Sometimes if you can log back in quickly it seems to sort itself out before you get bot killed. (Chances of escaping a lag death are pretty remote though :P )
