Optimize the server.. or take it back to how it was in 3.2.1

People say i bitch to much. Maybe i do, but right now, the server REALLY needs fixing. I might be 1 of the few on dial up, but others feel the lag, even those on cable. Here i sit with my max ping at 56000+, wondering if the server's gonna drop me. Smethnig's not right. there are only 37 people on right now, and i've played with 50+ people on and my ping's never hit 200. But come 3.2.2, vendetta is unplayable.. Any way you guys could return the server to 3.2.1 status, but leave all teh new stuff/changes untill you optimize teh serveR?

Do you have any other local access numbers you could use? Perhaps another ISP? Just a thought.

It's not HIS connection. Over my cable I've had lagging out, where I cannot see the chat for several minutes at a time and everything is, well, lagged. It's not on my end, that much I know.

I cant count on my hands and toes how many times i've lagged out in the past 2 hours.

I haven't gotten lagged out, but there was a noticable ping increase between 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.

I understand you are having problems, but you know I haven't noticed a ping jump on dialup between 3.2.1 and 3.2.2.

If 50+ other people are getting usable connections, but you aren't, what makes you so sure it is the server.

I noticed a small lag jump with 3.2 but not between 3.2.1 and 3.2.2. I mainly attribute this lag jump to higher server load due to increased usage, but I know nothing because I don't adminster the server.

It's definetly something beyond Urza's ISP/connection, but it does seem oddly non-global. I'm another one in the sudden increase in lag/ timing out pool, and I'm connecting from a pretty quick college campus intranet. What could have changed to lead to the plummet? And why is it only affecting some people?

Celebrim, I myself am on dialup, and have had maybe two really bad lag issues, not counting the dozen or so m_waiting=8(or ten, whatever) in the cargo screen.

However, I saw about 20 people today complaining about lagging, trying to dock, lagging, and finding out they'd died ramming the dock, getting pk'd while lagging, etc.

"If 50+ other people are getting usable connections, but you aren't, what makes you so sure it is the server."

50+ other people ARE complaining, and most of them are on broadband.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.. My ping is usually 70 something, but was hanging down around 65 today.... Nihm or SL mentioned all the cargo causing lag...... The life for cargo should be very short (or at least those of bots), say, 5 minutes.

Those of you seeing HORRIBLE lag, have you tried pinging/tracerouting to this host: majikthise.guildsoftware.com. That is the host name of the server.

It almost sounds like you all are going through the same router to the server and it's dead...

Sircamps, in order to make a sector lag by cargo must be done intentionaly, i think it is the computer trying to render so many spining flashing boxes. Whatever.

I have no horible lag, just getting cut off.

I don't get unusual pings until it happens. It has been happening for 2 days now. I get pings in the low 60's, then all of a sudden the ping goes BOOM!

A friend that I recently turned on to the game couldn't play at first. He investigated and said his ISP (Mindspring) was dropping packets.
I saw him on yesterday for a few hours and he didn't mention it again, so I assumed it's ok now.
I'm on AT&T cable, and I haven't noticed any significant increase in lag.

I'm not lagging at all here. But if it is in fact a game-related issue, then perhaps it may have something to do with the bots dropping widgets. That would be my best guess. Unless the net code was somehow broken during the update. For those who are lagging, what platform are you using? It could also be an isolated to Windows or Linux users.

I experienced the problem underdiscusion. It's really wierd. My average ping time for the evening was lower than normal and I experienced no particular lag, EXCEPT on three occassions of 50,000+ pings.

It's almost like the server is going through some sort reset. I'm not sure what is going on, but it isn't increased packet traffic or general laggyness (as might be caused by extra widgets in space). It's some sort of 'hickup'.

Windows XP here.

Pinging the server furball suggested, I had 60% (!!) packet loss. I agree with Celebrim about the hiccup-- everything runs smoothly, then BAM-- 56000 ping.

Most of the time I still enjoy a very good ping, but since 3.2.2 came out I have experienced brief moments where the max ping goes up dramatically, ships start coasting and no chat comes in. I've heard others bantering about it as well.

I've had a couple of random spikes as well on my end - then again, it could be due to other traffic on my line. It is only 15 mbit shared among 3000 users.

Well another one here with lag-problems.. Always was lower than 30-40 on ping... now with 3.2.2 the server seems to stop seeing that I'm there, resulting in not being able to dock, hitting bots but not being able to destrtroy them, endin gup in a totally different spot in the sectors then I thought i's be..

It's defintely a server-problem if you ask me... if not, it might be a platform related software-problem..

If perfect tommy is getting 60% packet loss, then it sounds more like a router is flapping somewhere, or one of our upstream links is full (and UDP just gets dropped for a while as a result of the router trying to keep it under control). Does this happen to several people at once?

I seem to get fairly consistent packet loss to perfect tommy from the server.
